Chapter 20 - Ch 20: Awkward Silence - 2

"This sucks. Life sucks. I am so annoyed. Why did this happen?"

In her bedroom, Sena Heinsberg sulked as she shoved her face harder into her pillow. She let out a frustrated sigh as she tried to control herself.

Seconds later, she brought her face out of the pillow—and it was yanked away by the other beta in the room.

"Hey, are you looking to kill yourself by suffocation? If you are, then can you do it when I'm not here? I don't want your mother thinking I accidentally killed you or something."

The speaker was an irritated beta who had been Sena's 'best friend' since she was five. Her name was Minerva Mecline.

The only reason Sena had chosen Minerva as her best friend was because she was a beta and not as attractive. Whenever they appeared together, Sena immediately looked like the more attractive one.

But that wasn't the only reason. It also had to do with the fact that Minerva used to be Emelia's friend—so Sena stole her from the older girl.

"Tsk, I'm not going to kill myself. Not unless I achieve what I want. But I can't believe my mother did this to me. I was supposed to be the one to head to the Heinsberg main mansion. Doesn't she realize how big of an opportunity she's making me miss by keeping me here?"

Sena questioned, and Minerva pretended to hear her out. But halfway through, she zoned out. After all, even if she wanted to pay attention, it was always the same thing over and over again.

What use was it anyway in the end?

"Minerva, are you listening to me? Hey, say something. I don't like being ignored like this. Hey—"

Minerva was trained to endure Sena's temper tantrums. That was why she knew when Sena had enough and was about to snap.

Right at the second Minerva ducked, a pillow flew past her head and landed against the wall. Minerva just picked it up and put it back on the bed.

"Are you done? Look, if you're so worried and angry about this, why don't you just visit your sister and check up on the situation that way? If those alphas ask for you, your parents will have to agree to send you to the main mansion."

Minerva asked calmly, offering a solution.

Usually, she would advise against dangerous things—but she knew Sena well. That girl would try to do whatever she wanted, with or without Minerva's input.

And since Sena was going to do stupid things anyway, it was better for Minerva to pretend to support her and get more benefits out of her.

After all, that was the only reason she had forged this friendship—to latch on to Sena's extreme fortune and be her plus-one everywhere. It landed her discounts and opportunities she wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

"You know, you're right. I can do that. Thanks, Minerva. I should get going now. I'll talk to you later."

Sena quickly stood up, deciding this was a good idea. She was so fast that Minerva had a hard time keeping up.

"Hey, wait! I'll come with you too. If you go alone, people might question your intentions."

Minerva quickly interfered as Sena was getting ready.

She would've rather had Sena go alone, since she'd heard rumors about how dangerous the Heinsberg main mansion was. But the thrill of meeting handsome alphas quieted those doubts.

Especially when one of the alphas was Eric Smith—her crush and one of the best actors out there.

'I won't miss my chance to meet him. And who knows, maybe destiny will spark something between us. After all, an alpha can fall in love with a beta too. It's not unheard of.'

Minerva ignored the small voice in the back of her head that reminded her most of those marriages were either arranged or didn't last a year.

But she was a maiden in love—and just as stubborn as Sena could be.

After the tense breakfast, Emelia was almost afraid the three alphas wouldn't leave her alone. So far, they'd shown no signs of leaving.

Thankfully, after half an hour, they did leave the house, giving Emelia her first calm day in that mansion.

As soon as she was alone, she threw her body on the couch and took in a deep breath. The tension in her body left as Emelia stretched it out.

"Finally, some peace and quiet. I better cherish every second of it."

That was what Emelia decided—but as soon as she closed her eyes, she fell asleep. She didn't recall feeling that tired.

Her sleep was dreamless, and by the time Emelia woke up, she felt much better than before.

She was woken up by the doorbell ringing, and she quickly moved toward it to check who had decided to visit. She couldn't recall anyone who liked her enough to visit her… or even knew her location.

Most people had been told she got a promotion and was overseas now.

'Well, looks like I need to check who it is. But surely, the situation can't be that bad.'

The situation could, in fact, turn worse.

On the other side of the door stood Sena—and behind her, Minerva. Emelia felt awkward as she opened the door. She didn't know what to do next.

After all, Sena's mother had strictly told her to never let Sena anywhere near the mansion. And yet, here Sena was, standing in front of her as if nothing was wrong.

Emelia didn't even want to step away from the door. But she had a feeling Sena wouldn't leave unless she got what she wanted.

"I thought you were told not to come here."

Emelia finally said, voice flat but polite.

Sena smiled, completely unbothered.

"I was told many things. But I do what I want."

Minerva, standing behind her with a carefully composed expression, gave Emelia a faint nod—as if to say she wasn't involved.

Emelia sighed. Her peaceful day had officially ended.

Emelia sighed. Her peaceful day had officially ended.

She stepped aside reluctantly, allowing the two girls in.

Sena brushed past her without a word of thanks, already examining the hallway with a critical eye, as if judging whether the place met her expectations.

Minerva trailed behind, more cautious but visibly excited. Her eyes darted from one expensive fixture to the next, no doubt estimating their worth.

"This place is nicer than I expected. Not quite as grand as the main estate, but passable."

Sena said with a sniff.

Emelia closed the door and folded her arms, watching her half-sister make herself at home in a place she had no right to be.

"What exactly do you want, Sena? You know your presence here could cause trouble."

Sena turned, her expression all innocence.

"Oh, I just missed you, big sister. Is it so wrong to want to spend time with family?"

Emelia gave her a long, unimpressed look.

Minerva cleared her throat.

"We're not here to cause problems. We just wanted to visit. That's all."

But Emelia could already sense it—whatever their real reason was, it wouldn't be simple.

And if the alphas returned early… she didn't even want to imagine the chaos that would follow.
