He reached for the box. Took one earring gently between his fingers. No rush. No smugness. Just slow, graceful precision like he'd done this before—like dressing someone up was part of his demonic charm arsenal.
She tilted her head slightly, exposing her neck.
The moment his fingers brushed her skin, she almost jumped.
Almost.
Warm.
Callused from something—fighting, maybe—but still careful.
He moved her hair aside. She swore he breathed near her temple. And if he did? It was so light she could barely tell.
Then—click.
First earring in place.
"Perfect fit," he murmured.
Her breath caught.

His hand brushed the side of her face this time. Thumb trailing lightly just below her ear as he found the lobe. His knuckles grazed her cheek. Her skin tingled.
She could hear her heart.
