Episode 52: Frostbound Truths
The mirror rippled like liquid starlight as Juvia and Ha-jun stepped through it. A bone-chilling wind hit them instantly. Snow swirled around their feet, and an eerie silence blanketed the land.
They stood before a towering castle carved entirely from glimmering ice, its spires piercing the gray sky. Chains of crystal looped around the outer towers like frozen serpents. The air pulsed with old magicāwounded, waiting, watching.
Ha-jun froze.
"This place⦠it's mine," he murmured. "I remember this timeline."
Juvia looked at him, his face pale, eyes wide. "You've been here before?"
Ha-jun nodded slowly. "I was a prince here. The last frost heir. But I was never free. My power was locked, sealed by my own bloodline. I was⦠a weapon."
Before Juvia could ask more, a loud clanking echoed across the snowy plain.
From the shadows beneath the ice bridge, figures emergedāfrost knights with hollow eyes and blades made of pure glacial steel. They didn't speak. They didn't need to.
They were here to kill.
"Looks like your past doesn't want to be remembered," Juvia whispered, unsheathing her blade.
Ha-jun's breath formed clouds in the cold. "Then we'll make it."
Together, they charged.
The battle was brutal. The knights moved like ghosts, striking with inhuman precision. Juvia's moonfire flickered against the bitter cold, struggling to hold its heat. Ha-jun fought with fists wrapped in frostfire, every punch blasting icy shockwaves.
But they were outnumbered.
Juvia was knocked back, landing hard on the snow-covered ground. A knight raised his blade to finish herābut a flash of blue light exploded behind him.
Ha-jun stood tall, eyes glowing bright blue, frost swirling violently around him.
And then⦠chains burst from the castle, wrapping around him.
"No!" Juvia screamed, running toward him.
The chains didn't bindāthey welcomed him. They wrapped around his wrists like bracelets, sliding across his skin as if recognizing their master.
The frost knights knelt.
Ha-jun's voice deepened. "I remember."
Images flashed in his mind: a younger Juvia in this lifetimeāvisiting the castle as a diplomat. Secret meetings in moonlit halls. A forbidden kiss beside a frozen lake. And⦠betrayal. His own brother turning him over to the Queen.
"I was in love with you," he whispered. "Even then."
Juvia's eyes filled with tears. "You never told meā¦"
"I couldn't. The Queen would've destroyed your timeline just to hurt me."
Suddenly, the ice cracked behind them.
From deep within the castle, a scream echoed. A scream layered with paināand rage.
The doors creaked open, revealing a chamber filled with mirrors. And chained to the centerā
āa child.
With Ha-jun's eyes.
Juvia gasped. "That's⦠you?"
"No," Ha-jun said, stepping forward slowly, "that's my soul fragment. She took it from me⦠so I'd never remember how to love."
The mirrors around the child glowed, showing moments from Ha-jun's livesāeach one stained with sorrow and isolation.
"She's feeding off it," Juvia said. "It's how the Void Queen keeps her grip on you."
"We need to break the chain," Ha-jun said. "But only I can do it."
As he stepped into the chamber, the mirrors screamed, twisting and reflecting versions of Ha-junāsome cruel, some broken, some begging for death.
The child looked up at him. "Will you leave me again?"
Ha-jun knelt. "Never again."
He reached outāhis fingers tremblingāand touched the icy chain.
It shattered in a burst of blue light.
The mirrors screamed and exploded.
Juvia shielded her eyes.
When she looked again, Ha-jun was glowingāhis body pulsing with restored power. The child version of him faded into his chest with a whisper.
And then, a new symbol glowed on his arm: a crescent moon wrapped in chains.
"You've reclaimed another shard," said Kai, appearing from the frost as a projection. "Two down. Four to go."
But as the snow settled⦠another mirror cracked behind them.
A voice echoed:
"You dare to undo my work?"
The sky turned blood red. The Void Queen was coming.
