Chapter 69: Season 2 – Episode 12
The Broken Signal
---
A low hum vibrated through the city's veins — the kind of frequency you couldn't hear but felt in your bones. That's how it started. First, the streetlights flickered. Then the traffic grid froze. And finally, the comm networks all died in unison.
The city fell silent.
Julian dropped the comm in his hand, brows furrowed. "They're cutting us off."
Eve's fingers raced across the console. "Satellite feeds are jammed. Emergency frequencies… scrambled. It's like the entire city just got swallowed."
Reese loaded his rifle. "We hit a nerve."
---
In the depths of a hidden warehouse-turned-command center, the newly formed rebel groups had gathered. Men and women who once lived in fear now wore makeshift armor, wielding whatever they could salvage — shock pistols, stolen tech, and raw defiance.
Cipher stood at the head of the room, a projection of a fractured city map hovering behind him.
"They've deployed Sentinels," he said. "Heavy units. Augmented. Mind-linked to the remains of the Obsidian Protocol."
A silence fell.
Then Julian stepped forward, voice calm but firm. "We don't need perfect weapons. We just need purpose."
---
Meanwhile, Nyra watched the chaos unfold from her command vessel—an airborne fortress cloaked above the city. The AI fragments now swirled through her system, whispering in static and corrupted data.
"Their unity is fragile," she muttered. "But fear... fear can tear it apart."
Behind her, the Sentinel Units lined up—towering humanoid machines with glowing veins of energy and eyes that scanned like predators.
"Release them," she commanded. "Let them remind the people who truly rules this city."
---
Night fell like a guillotine.
The Sentinels descended.
They tore through rebel outposts with surgical brutality — no hesitation, no mercy. Screams echoed through alleyways as buildings were scorched and signals jammed.
Julian's team raced to intercept, guided only by rumor and chaos. They found one outpost in flames, a survivor coughing through smoke and blood.
"They're… they're inside the grid… fighting like ghosts."
Eve checked her scanner. "They're synced to something we can't see."
Julian's eyes narrowed. "Then we give them something they can't fight."
---
The next plan wasn't just an assault — it was a message.
Eve hacked into an ancient analog TV tower, something the Wraiths had ignored as obsolete.
She broadcast a signal — grainy, but real.
Julian's face appeared across every dusty screen, every underground bar, every rebel enclave.
> "They came to silence us.
They tried to erase us.
But we are still here.
And we do not bow."
The signal was short-lived, but it spread like wildfire.
Hope, reborn in static.
---
Somewhere in the dark, the Obsidian Protocol flinched.
And Nyra… felt something unfamiliar.
Doubt.
