On the Way to Citrus Island
Riku and his group encountered Drake and the four Seafoam Islands Gym Leaders rushing toward them.
Previously, these four Gym Leaders had looked down on Riku a bit.
But after learning that Riku had not only encountered an Elite Four member but had also successfully persuaded her, the Gym Leaders felt lingering fear in their hearts.
Fortunately, they hadn't offended Riku earlier—otherwise, they might not even know how they'd die.
Meanwhile, the higher-ups of the Orange League, who had already received reports, had been waiting at the pier when Riku brought the Elite Four member Agatha.
"Welcome, Elite Four Agatha and Elite Four Lorelei of the Indigo League."
Grandma stood at the forefront. Though she was older than everyone present, she still bowed slightly, along with the league members, toward Agatha and Lorelei.
It was a show of respect for the Elite Four and acknowledgment of their strength.
After all, the Orange League ranked at the bottom among all leagues. Not to mention the veteran Elite Four members standing before them—even a newly appointed Elite Four member could defeat all the Pokémon Trainers in the Orange League.
"Old Hale, no need to be so polite."
Agatha seemed very familiar with Grandma.
"It's been years since we last met. I didn't expect your hair to have turned completely white. Are you still in good health?"
"I'm doing well." Grandma Hale smiled on the surface but cursed inwardly.
Even though she was old, she didn't like being asked such questions by peers.
"Your Indigo League has really given our Orange League quite a surprise this time," she quickly changed the subject.
"According to the rules, Trainers at your Elite Four level must give a heads-up before entering another league."
"You two, however, gave no notice and even stirred up quite a few problems."
Agatha shook her head. "Believe it or not, the Indigo League truly has no intention of targeting the Orange League."
Grandma sighed. "We're all old acquaintances, yet you still won't speak a word of truth."
"Anyway, now that you've come here to meet me, does that mean you've given up the mission?"
"That's right," Agatha nodded.
"Lorelei gave up, so I might as well give up too."
"After all, both of us were saved by this young man, Riku. If we continue investigating the Orange Archipelago and cause unrest, it would be repaying kindness with enmity."
Agatha's words immediately relieved the elders of the Orange League.
"However..."
Agatha continued, "Lorelei and I are easy to talk to. What you need to watch out for are Bruno and Lance. Those two veteran Champions are extremely difficult to handle."
Lorelei interjected, "Bruno is a Fighting-type Champion and a natural warmonger."
"He'll stir up trouble even when there's none."
"And Lance—he's sinister and cunning. He's also the leader of this mission."
"He definitely won't give up so easily."
The elders of the Orange League exchanged glances, their heads throbbing in unison.
——
A whole day passed.
Because Agatha had developed a strong curiosity about Riku, she decided to stay in the Orange Archipelago for a while longer and not leave just yet.
She even asked Riku to keep it a secret.
Darkrai was a Pokémon she, as a Ghost-type Champion, had always dreamed of.
Moreover, Agatha knew that the Darkrai in the Orange Archipelago had no divine position—it wasn't a true legendary Pokémon.
If she got lucky, she might be able to capture it.
Agatha had been too greedy and rash this time. Otherwise, as a Ghost-type Champion, she shouldn't have been controlled by Darkrai.
Just thinking about how that Darkrai, despite lacking a legendary position, could toy with her—a Champion—made her heart burn with passion.
If she could capture Darkrai and obtain a legendary Pokemon, her status would skyrocket. She would become the Ghost-type Champion of the Pokémon world—not just one limited to the Indigo Plateau.
As for Darkrai, Agatha believed Riku was the breakthrough point.
So, she had to gain Riku's trust.
Even with the life-saving debt she owed him, Agatha's pride wouldn't let her agree to Riku's request easily without reason.
Seeing how familiar Lorelei and Riku were, Agatha approached her while they were eating.
"Lorelei, you seem to know Riku very well. Who is he?"
Lorelei instantly saw through Agatha's intentions.
"I don't know," she said bluntly. "But I'm warning you—don't get any ideas about him."
"Oh?" Agatha smiled slyly.
"What's this? Have you fallen in love?"
"I'm not saying anything, but Lorelei, you are the goddess of all male Trainers in the Indigo League. If this news got out, you'd bring trouble to little Riku."
Lorelei frowned. "My affairs are none of your business."
"And whether I fall in love or not has nothing to do with you. You're old—just enjoy your retirement."
"Haven't you always had your eyes on Professor Oak in the Kanto region?" Lorelei added with a smirk.
"He's still single, isn't he? Back when you were young..."
"Enough!" Agatha suddenly roared, taking a few deep breaths before calming down.
"Lorelei, we're Trainers from the same league. Can't we help each other out?"
"Don't think I don't know what you're planning." Lorelei's eyes narrowed sharply.
"Agatha, I'm giving you one last warning."
"If you dare touch Riku, I'll spend the rest of my life hunting you down, you old hag."
