Chapter 15 - Chapter 15- Residence issues

A young girl waited by the side of a shop selling Pills. She had a bored look her face as she stared at the setting sun. The gods hand was cast a warm afterglow of the departing sun.

'Is he coming? I will have to pack up soon.'

She said inwardly as she sighed and waited for Grey. Eventually she had to close the shop but just as she turned to leave, she saw Grey standing silently in front of her.

"Hello"

She flinched when he gave a small wave of his hand when she finally noticed him.

"Damn, what are you doing here. I thought you weren't coming." She said as she fully locked the shop and turned to face him.

"I was busy and had some stuff to do". He scratched the back of his head and lingered for a few seconds.

She shrugged. "Whatever, anyways have you taken my decision into thought. My father came back home today and he would not mind the idea of a new hunter."

Grey just nodded his head and followed her deeper into the scavenger camp. He passed by residence made of tents and some made with normal building supplies.

There seemed to be two sections in the scavenger camp. The outskirts, and the main scavenger camp.

Seeing the daily lives of the people living in the outskirts made him remember his short time as an outskirt rat too.

He was half expecting them to enter one of such tents but was surprised when they entered the main scavenger camp.

They walked for few minutes and came across a normal looking house. It had brick walls and a lawn. The girl entered and waited for Grey who was still staring.

He had never been a real house before - apart from his rusty shed - this place was exquisite and luxurious in his eyes.

Thinking that he did not like the house, the girl shrugged and said. "It's just our small house. I bet it can't compare to where you've stayed before."

"Yes it can't compare at all." He spoke in his usual nonchalant voice.

"My place was at least four times bigger, and a lot of grass in front. But there were no lights cause of the bizarre existences that lurked outside."

"Uh... okay... I guess."

Grey nodded and together they entered the house and he took a good look at the interior. It could not compare to those luxuriousness of the village hall, but it was not far from there.

He was still admiring the beauty when a short blade whizzed passed his head and was embedded into the wall behind him.

His gaze immediately turned cold and his hand reached for the blunt knife by the side. Kai-kai kitan was already circulating and waiting to burst forth in icy flames. When he looked ahead, he saw his assailant.

It was the captain. He had several injuries each just been treated and an especially large gash on his chest which lead from his shoulder blade to his waist.

He was breathing ruggedly and his eyes were blood shot. Blood dripped from his open wounds as his outstretched hand showed the veins bulging within.

"Bastard... I'll kill... you."

The captain said in exasperation. His breathing heavy and laboured as he gripped another short blade in his hand and was ready to throw it again.

Grey tightened his grip on the blunt knife, ready to make a move the instant captain moved. His eyes cold and still, but you could see the calculative coldness hidden within.

'What is he doing here?'

Then the girl stood in front of him with her hands open as if protecting him.

"Father, what are you doing. Put that knife down your wounds are opening up again."

"Mimi, step away. I want to kill a bastard." The Captain had not backed down and his hands were still ready to throw the short knifes. The mad gleam in his eyes already condensing to palpable tension.

Then Grey heard the sound of the door being open, but he didn't take his eyes away from the captain even for a second.

Any sudden movement and he would burst forth.

"What's this... honey, why are you so bloodied." Grey heard a woman's voice resound behind him but resisted the urge to turn his head away.

Then the sounds of hurried footsteps followed by a graceful figure that went to the captain.

The woman was tall, had raven black hair and even the scavenger clothes she wore did nothing to dampen her beauty. Her curves were still very accentuated... Wait, what am I thinking.

This woman was also a cultivator, but he stage could not be said to be high. In fact, the spiritual fluctuations he felt from her gave him the feeling she was in the fifth stage of Qi condensation.

The lady took the blade off the captain's hand. His gaze still blazing with fury and madness as he stared at Grey.

Then finally, she turned to Grey and he could finally see the face of the lady. She had soft green eyes and high cheekbones. Her skin was like alabaster. Overall, she was a pretty lady.

She also looked like Mimi...

"And who might you be?" She asked and then lingered for a few moments, taking her time to study his face. It was clear she had no memory of seeing him before.

"He's a selfish bastard... who..." The captain did not finish his sentence because he was interrupted.

"That's not true..." Mimi tried to speak up.

"Are you defending this insolent brat?" Captain's anger flared up again and he made to lunge at Grey but he was held back by the woman. She was surprisingly strong... or maybe because the captain was injured and couldn't use all his strength if he wanted to.

'Curses... what kind of situation am I?'

Very soon, Grey lowered his defensive pose and turned around to leave. There was still some daylight, maybe he could find that cave in the short time he had and crash there for the night.

As of now, the situation was too awkward and he didn't want to get involved in any family struggles... at least that's what it looked like to him.

"Where are you going?" Mimi seemed surprised as he reached the door and opened it. One foot already outside.

"Back... to the corroded zone."

And then he was gone.
