Grant slumped to the floor behind Alice, a spot on his chest turning red quickly.
Alice felt all the strength in her legs going out as she fell to the floor.
Grant moved quickly to Alice, cradling her into his lap.
"You're okay. No one is going to hurt you anymore. You're safe now," he murmured, helpful words in her hair as he held her shivering body close.
Alice cried hard, burrowing her head into Travis's shirt.
"It's okay. You can cry all you want. I'm here for you. You're safe now. No one is going to hurt you anymore. I'm going to protect you," he murmured sweet things into her ear.
A very shrill feminine scream rang out.
"Grant! Nooo..." Octavia shouted as she ran over to the unmoving body of Grant.
His lips and face were pale, and his eyes were barely open.
"Someone please call a nurse, fast. He's losing a lot of blood." She dragged him close, putting his head on her lap, feeling his pulse.
"His pulse is weak! Please call a doctor!" she shouted to no one.
