"Why are you all looking at me like that? Do I look like the kind of model citizen who'd go around seducing someone else's wife like that lecherous friend of mine? Seriously, get a grip."
Faced with the suspicious stares from Hiashi and the others, Ye Wudi merely shrugged with a helpless, indifferent expression, as if to say you people have no taste for good character when you see it.
Unfortunately, not a single person present was buying it.
You? A good kid?
We don't believe a word of it!
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received 999 points of negative emotion from a Root special jōnin!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received..."
The men from Root were practically gnashing their teeth in rage, itching to punch him right in the face.
But Ye Wudi? He simply put on a heartbroken expression, as if the world had wronged him.
"Sigh... being a good person really is the hardest thing. At least my dear Hinata still loves me... smack smack..."
He bowed his head and took a few smug sips from his imported sweet nectar.
That little show was enough to make Hinata's cheeks turn even redder. Her long eyelashes quivered slightly she was on the verge of waking up.
"..."
Hiashi, who had been silent with a dark expression, still trying to come up with some excuse to console himself, finally broke.
He turned to the three Root operatives and snapped coldly, "If you're going to leave, do it now. Otherwise, don't leave at all."
He couldn't let those three linger here another second.
If he did, he had no idea what kind of corrupting nonsense Ye Wudi might pour into his daughter's ears next.
Upon hearing Hiashi's warning, the three from Root didn't even look back. They turned and left immediately.
But before they could get far, three of Ye Wudi's clones concealed beneath the chakra signatures of Hiashi and his men appeared silently behind them.
They formed the Tiger Seal in unison and locked onto the weakest points in the Root members' defenses.
Ye Wudi's real body stood just behind them, waving politely.
"Well, since you're in such a hurry to leave, as a good kid, I should at least see you off."
See us off?
Wait... don't tell me-!
The Root ninjas instantly realized what was about to happen. But with their chakra reserves practically depleted, they had no time to mount a proper defense.
In the end, all they could do... was explode.
Secret Taijutsu Technique Thousand Years of Death!
"Ahhh! Damn you, Ye Wudi! I'll be back for revenge-!"
With a series of startled yelps, the three Root operatives were launched into the air like rockets, jetting off into the distance with the occasional explosive puff for extra propulsion.
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received 999 points of negative emotion from a Root special jōnin!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received 999 points of negative emotion from a Root special jōnin!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received..."
Watching the numbers roll in, Ye Wudi felt a joy that was downright euphoric. He nearly burst out laughing on the spot.
Go, my precious vegetables!
Keep feeding me those delicious, endlessly renewable negative emotions!
"Mm... Wudi-gege? Oh, right! There were bad guys... hngh! Don't be scared, Wudi-gege, I... I'll help you beat them up..."
Hinata blinked open her eyes, still a bit hazy, and looked up at Ye Wudi with a dazed innocence.
"Eh? Wudi-gege? Where'd the bad guys go?"
Seeing the now-empty rooftop, she tilted her head and looked around, confused.
Ye Wudi smiled gently, reaching out to play with her small hand. Then, lowering his face until their foreheads touched, he murmured softly:
"Don't worry. The bad guys are all gone. I took care of everything. We're safe now."
"You really are the best, Hinata. You're always thinking of me."
"Wudi-gege... don't... don't do that... there's still people... around..."
Seeing Ye Wudi's affectionate gesture, Hiashi whose face had just returned from coal-black to slightly less terrifying sighed in exasperation and turned away.
"Take them home."
No matter how troublesome that brat Ye Wudi might be how outrageously polite, how absurdly perverse at least his feelings for Hinata were genuine.
"Yes, Patriarch!"
The Hyūga clan elder gave a nod to the three Anbu operatives.
Seeing this, the Anbu trio didn't hesitate. Their mission had simply been to ensure Ye Wudi's safety. Now that he was heading into the Hyūga compound, their job was done.
All they had to do now was return and report to that person.
But they had only just turned to leave when Ye Wudi called out after them in the most courteous voice possible:
"I never got your names, sirs! How am I supposed to properly thank you in the future if you don't tell me?"
"..."
Thank us in the future?
You just want to come seduce our wives, don't you!?
If you weren't Hinata's fiancé and if the higher-ups didn't have high hopes for you we'd have already stomped you into the ground!
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received 999 points of negative emotion from an Anbu jōnin!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received..."
"Aw man, they left just like that? I was hoping to have a heart-to-heart with them all night…"
Seeing the disappointed look on Ye Wudi's face, Hinata immediately felt sorry for him.
She gently tapped her finger against her head and tried her best to come up with an idea.
"Oh! Wudi-gege, when we get back, I'll ask Father about those nice uncles! He definitely knows who they are!"
"Then we can go thank them properly!"
Ye Wudi's eyes lit up.
"Hahaha, Hinata, you really are my lucky star! My perfect wife!"
"Ah~ I'm Wudi-gege's lucky star... his... perfect wife..."
Hinata was so flustered by his words that her whole face turned crimson. Her head started steaming, her eyes went dizzy, and she passed out right there in his arms again.
Ye Wudi smiled to himself, cradled her gently, and began walking away.
But just as he took his first step
The Hyūga elder looked around furtively, then reached out and placed a firm hand on Ye Wudi's shoulder.
"Kid, that formula you gave me... it really works?"
Ye Wudi blinked, a big question mark practically floating above his head.
Then, with a knowing smirk, he teased, "Elder, you're still going strong, huh?"
"Ahem. It's not that. It's just... our branch family is a little short on heirs, so I figured I should do my part to help."
"Oh, come on. You've got your eye on some girl, don't you? Feeling the itch, huh?"
Of course Ye Wudi didn't believe the elder's excuse. And with such a perfect opportunity to rack up more negative emotion points, there was no way he'd let it slide.
Sure enough, the elder's face turned a little stiff.
"I..."
"Don't worry, I get it. We're men. It's natural."
Ye Wudi patted him on the shoulder with great sincerity.
"And don't worry about the formula. I promise you it's totally legit."
"Really?" The elder still looked hesitant.
"Of course it is. I'm Hinata's future husband, the Hyūga clan's son-in-law. You think I'd scam you?"
"That'd be like a watermelon vendor selling unripe fruit. Doesn't make any sense, right?"
The elder nodded slowly. That... actually did make some sense.
But before he could say anything else, Ye Wudi gave him a big, wholesome smile.
"Well, since you trust it so much..."
"Time to pay up."
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received 666 points of negative emotion from the Hyūga clan elder!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have received..."
