The tension in the room could be cut with a knife as Kaelen's penetrating green eyes darted between Ronan and me. His jaw clenched, a muscle twitching at the side of his face.
"No," Ronan replied smoothly, taking a step back from me. "Lilith just left after trying to get under Seraphina's skin. I was making sure she was okay."
Kaelen's gaze landed on me, searching my face for confirmation. I nodded, keeping my expression carefully blank. The less they knew about what Lilith had actually proposed, the better.
"I'll leave you two alone," Ronan said, moving toward the door. He paused beside his brother, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Remember what we talked about, brother."
With that cryptic comment, he left, closing the door behind him.
I busied myself straightening the already neat bedsheets, uncomfortable under Kaelen's intense stare. His presence always made me too aware of my body, of the unwelcome pull between us.
"What happened with Lilith?" he asked, stepping closer.
