Chapter 9 - Unintentional Side-Effects

Damien awoke once more.

Amidst the heavy smoke emanating from an unknown source and the piles of ash scattered around the room, the air had a hint of serenity that Damien had never noticed before.

He groggily stood up as his vision returned and scanned the room to assess his situation.

But before all of that, he couldn't help but notice something peculiar about himself.

Well, to begin with, he was now fully naked.

But most importantly:

"My right arm!" he whispered.

"It's back...?"

Not only did he somehow regrow his right arm, but he also felt much stronger than before in general.

He immediately opened his runes.

Now that I think about it, I never knew what the Luneborne Sigil did or what it even was.

He continued to ponder.

I mean it can't possibly be bad, can it? After all, it must be behind the restoration of my arm...

He scanned through his runes till he found his memories,

A new line of runes appeared that weren't there before, but they weren't related to the Luneborne Sigil.

[Obsidian Prowler]

He didn't bother reading the rest. He needed to find out about what the Luneborne Sigil did to him and then finish off the Void Servant so he could get out of this place.

He did, however, also notice a change in his attributes section.

He immediately focused on the runes that held his attributes until he finally saw something that wasn't there before.

What is this?

[Blood Cage] Attribute Description: "A cage not made of steel, but of obligation. A curse of blood, sealed by fate, until the condemned becomes the executioner. You are trapped in the nightmare realm, and not even death can save you. (Required Kills: 1/10,000)"

Damien didn't have time to figure all of this out.

After a quick skim through the attribute description and noticing the "trapped in the nightmare realm" and "Required Kills," he felt like puking.

Damien looked further around the room till he found the source of the smoke.

It was the Void Servant.

The creature was lying down and looked heavily ravaged with burns and scars.

Damien cautiously approached the body until he realized that it wasn't a body anymore but a corpse.

Did I do that?

Well, that explains the new memory.

But if it's dead, that means I really am trapped, aren't I...

Damien heaved a great sigh and started to slowly walk towards the exit.

He noticed that all the rooms and doors that were misplaced or had completely disappeared were back to normal, so he looked through each one, seeing if there was anything he could use.

He eventually found some old but usable light armor and headed out of the sanctum.

When he finally reached the outside, he took a deep breath of fresh air, walked a couple of steps forward, and found a nice stone to sit on.

He summoned the one memory he had; he still didn't bother with reading its description or enchantments, he just didn't care anymore.

The obsidian prowler took the form of a Jet-Black dagger.

Damien knew what he had to do, but a part of him still didn't want to accept it.

He knew about the hollow mountains, the white fog that mysteriously emanated in the lower altitudes, it felt as if fate found his misfortune of being trapped in his first nightmare not bad enough, but now he is further confined in the higher altitudes of the hollow mountains or at least until he kills ten thousand creatures.

However long that may take.

As time went on, he found his first abomination flying its way towards him.

He slowly got up and prepared for battle.

An action he knew he would have to repeat many thousands of times more in the future.

This "fated" attribute really sucks doesn't it...

I swear to god, one day I will kill the bastard who is behind this stupid nightmare spell!

And so, it began.
