I tell him feeling drowsy.
I'm sure...how about we go to sleep now?
He suggests and I take him up on that offer, we both crawl into the tent and immediately fall asleep
FLASHBACK
SCENE: AFGHANISTAN
ONE YEAR AGO
I'm sitting in the medical tent, after ending the call with that person when Julian and Derek enter the tent,
Hey buddy how are you feeling?
Julian asks me
I'm fine I guess...I still can't believe sarg is gone...
I add still in shock,
It's ok pal... he'll be remembered...
Derek added trying to make me feel better. Just as he said that the tents opens once more and my childhood friend walks in, he was my senior in college but he enlisted after me so I outrank him, nonetheless he's a great friend and Ally, Jordan Smith.
Hey...how are you feeling pheonix?
Jordan asks me,
I'm fine...
I say trying to keep my composure,
By the way...the new Sargent is asking everyone to gather in the hall...some pep talk I assume...
Jordan says, we all nod and Julian helps me up and we all head to the main hall.
A couple days later
Scene: campfire
Were all sitting near a campfire, me, Julian, Derek and Jordan. The sun set ages ago and we're trying to keep warm
Hey guys...howing have we been here?
Julian asks us,
I don't know...I stopped counting after two weeks.
Derek replied, we don't remember how long we've been here in Afghanistan but it sure has been a while. We're just taking trying to take our mind off the battle we have to fight in three days, a big one...
Hey guys...
Derek says his voice low,
How about we make a promise?
We all look at Derek.
What type of promise?
I ask him, derek goes in the tent and brings out a rusty old metal box
Put your dog tags in here.
He tells us,
For what?
Julian asks him with confusion, we were all confused.
I..in three days...we don't know whether we'll live or not...
He takes a deep breath and continues,
None of us have any family who the tags will go to...let's make a deal...we'll bury this box right here ...and if any of us survives we get to dig the box out and claim all the favours...if we all survive...we take our tags and pretend nothing happened.
We all silently sit after hearing his proposition,it's true...none of us had any significant family members, without saying a work each of us took off our tags and placed them in the metal box. Derek digs a hole and puts the box in before filled it up back with dirt.
Hey Derek I bet I'll live longer than you,
Jualin joked
Hell nah I'll live longer!
Derek replied back, it's this type of humor that keeps us sane through all of this.
Hey guys cut it out. Just pray we get out alive.
I say trying to get them to quit this dark humor,
Ok ok we'll stop
Derek added, we all begin to laugh and everything starts to go black,
Present time
I wake up sweating still in the tent, I turn around and see Sebastian still asleep, I try to get up but he hugs me tightly,
What's wrong princess? Didn't sleep well?
He asks me
No...I slept fine...
I say trying to be convincing
SEBASTIAN'S POV
I look at his face, he was sweating bullets, it's not that hot out here
Why are you sweating so much? Do you feel ok?
I ask him concerned,
No no I'm fine...
He adds and gets out of the tent, I follow him out, I want to ask what's wrong but I know he won't tell.
Should we make breakfast?
I ask him and he nods, we both light the fire and make some eggs,
Should we go on a hike?
I suggest him,
Uhh sure...we can go on a hike
He says looking at the pathway,
Great let's finish eating and let's go
I tell him and we start to finish our food
