That two weeks at work, Simon is box down with plenty of paperwork. He needs to see how the company is preforming. Peter is going up and the elevatory everyday. While Lisa is busy compiling her reports together. Her desk return to back when it was before Simon tidy it up. Lisa even skip lunch to finish up her paperwork which seems like endless. Her staff who goes out to have lunch have to return her boxes of lunch that she wants to eat. She eats while she work as well. Meanwhile her chat room is bombing with nonstop questions of her boss.
'Lisa, are you busy? why aren't you texting a reply?'
'She must be still in a meeting.'
'With a hot boss!'
'I can't work with a boss like that.'
'Totally. If my boss is like Mr Han. I think i won't be working hard. I will be staring hard.'
The girls goes on to chat without Lisa replying. Her work for this whole week is loaded on her desk. By hook or by crook she needs to finish them and hand it online.
Simon is too busy to cook dinner and he returns to the apartment late at night. After a good long shower, he lay down on the bed and sleep like dead. He wish for the weekend to be here so that he can sleep for the whole day. In the morning, he wakes up at the usual time. The sun is yet to raise and he make a light breakfast for himself to much. He swatch on the TV, news is on. He watch with a blank state of mind and accident press on the remote control it jump into another channel. It is on a commercial for wedding rings. He stare at the commercial watching everything about the ring. The ending of the commercial shows a girl with a dazzling diamond ring while she is wearing a wedding dress. He look over the wedding photo for both of them. He don't remember if he have buy any ring for their marriage on that day.
Simon is bother with the ring commercial. He constantly see girls wearing a ring on their finger. Showing it to their friends. He hear them say it's from their boyfriend or the engagement ring or a wedding ring. The rock always blink hard on him as he look at it. Simon even ask Peter about rings.
"Yeah i bought a small diamond ring for my girl friend. She is so happy that night i have the longest night ever."
Peter goes on talking about how happy his girlfriend was that day and stretches for days to weeks and the best part is hearing that she tells everyone that Peter belongs to her. Simon hearing this imagine if Lisa wears one. Does it means that she belong to him? She probably have to introduce him as 'husband' instead of 'boss'
The weekend arrives and he should be looking through the report that the head of different department have complied for him but he is skimming through catalogues of rings from various big brands. Seeing different types of shapes, color and sizes, he is not sure what to get for Lisa. After a while, he keeps the catalogues into he drawer and look at the reports. He cannot think properly. He walk to the corner of his room and pick up a medium size dumb bell. He start exercising. An hour later he sit doing and start reading through the reports. Using his pencil he writes what he want to see and do to get better results. He work through the day. Finally he looks his phone Lisa left a message.
'Do you want to have dinner together. I am at the nearby connivence store. I want to order fast food for tonite. Do you want it?'
'Sure. I can have anything.'
she post a thumb icon and he put down his mobile phone. He continue to work till he hear the door open and close at the supply room. He look up to see Lisa at the door, she smile and show the bags on hand. He gets up and follow her. They sit down and eat in silence. He look at her hands while eating. Lisa who is holding and eating a piece of drumstick gets uncomfortable.
"Just to let you know, I've already wash my hands..."
"Why don't you wear accessories? You don't like them?"
"I don't really wear them. Unless there is an occasion."
"what type of rings stones do you like?"
"Stones..."
"Like diamonds... for example..."
"No don't like them. So stressful to have one. I mean what if i lost the stone. It's like losing a percentage of my life. Nope. don't want it."
"So what will you like?"
"Hmmm, i like more of the color rather than the type of stones. Honesty i won't know anything about stones. i know there are meaning behind every stone but i don't know. i never been interested in it."
"What about shape. You know what type of shapes that you like, do you?"
"Shapes... maybe a square.."
He nod his head slowly and chew his food. Lisa who is mindless at what he is thinking talks about the news. After dinner they sit together to watch another movie. He watch a pounder what she said that she did not like a diamond ring. He watch the TV screen showing 'The Proposal'. He watch her snuggle his cushion. Her shoulder length hair is tie up in a small bun with the fringe slide onto her. It looks uncomfortable to him thus he lean over to slide that fringe from her face. She turn to look at him and ask what is he doing. At the same time, the screen is showing the couple sharing a kiss. Simon at that time, lean over a give her a kiss too. It isn't the type of forceful kiss that she had the last time, this time it is a kiss tender kiss. After that kiss he open his eyes to look at her and he sit back to where he was sitting awhile ago. She at that moment is confused but something in her heart makes her want to smile. She turn and look at the TV screen. What whatever play there she cannot hear. She only hear the sound of her heart beating.
