AT THE SAME TIME
XAVIER'S POINT OF VIEW:
The king's eyes lingered on me for a long moment, and I could feel the weight of his gaze like a heavy cloak settling over my shoulders. I kept my expression guarded, but inside, something flickered. Maybe it was hope. Or maybe I was just tired of being the broken one. He finally spoke, voice low but steady.
"You carry yourself with a strength I respect, Xavier. Not just for surviving what you have… but for protecting Terrence."King said.
I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat tightening.
"I do what I have to. For him."I said.
The King nodded approvingly.
"Good. You've done more than your son ever did. That boy." He glanced toward the hallway, where Jaxon had retreated- "Was reckless and selfish. You, though… you're the blood he should have been. Not just in body, but in honor."
