This used to be something they did often to stay warm. Back then, when he warmed her hands, it brought her this soft, comforting feeling.
But now… now all she felt was fear, strange, unreal, almost like she was dreaming.
She had no idea what he wanted from her.
Feeling uneasy, she tried to pull her hand away, but he held on tighter, not letting her move at all.
"Mr. Jeffrey…"
"Call me Jeffrey. You always used to call me that, didn't you?"
Her lips pressed together tightly.
"Think of it as an order. Call me Jeffrey," he said softly, his tone quiet but serious. He really didn't want to hear her call him "Mr. Jeffrey." It irritated him.
Rachel stayed silent for a long time, then finally whispered, "Jeffrey."
A smile instantly appeared on his face.
It was such a clean, sincere smile that she felt a little dazed looking at it.
She used to think his smile was pure, like it hadn't been touched by anything dirty in the world.
That kind of smile made her want to protect him.
