Chapter 2 - Magic

In this game, several races exist—such as elves, humans, and demons. However, they live separately from one another, especially the elves, who have completely isolated themselves from the outside world.

The main conflict of the game centers around the demons' ambition to conquer the world. They use every method imaginable—sowing discord between humans and elves, sending spies, and carrying out countless malicious deeds.

Caine's role as the chosen hero is to stop the demon race.

Midway through the game, there will be a large-scale attack on the academy by the demons. They have two main objectives: to kill the saintess and Caine.

If both of them die, the greatest threat to the demons from the human side will disappear.

This attack, regardless of which route is taken, will always result in casualties. And in every route, Derrick always ends up as one of the victims.

My goal is to survive that attack. After that, I'll be free.

"It's written in the character profile that Derrick has a mana core of extremely poor quality and very limited capacity. That means, at the moment, I can only use basic-level magic."

The Mana Core is an invisible organ within living beings, used to store and process mana. It exists from the moment of birth, and its quality and capacity are also determined at birth. The better the quality and capacity, the higher the level of magic a person can use.

I reached out my hand.

Elemental affinity is a person's compatibility with a certain element. Most people have only one affinity. Those born with more than one are extremely rare.

From what I read in Derrick's character profile, his affinity is lightning. That means I need to draw mana from the core, gather it at a single point, and visualize the spell.

So, I begin drawing mana from my core, channeling it through the Mana Veins—invisible pathways spread throughout the body that carry mana from the core. I gather all the mana into my hand. As the process continues, I feel a subtle vibration—barely noticeable. A sign that my affinity truly is lightning.

I start to imagine what this magic should look like, what kind of result it would create. Something begins to form in my hand—lightning.

The final step is to release it. But where? I know… the wall.

Lightning bursts from my hand and strikes the wall.

"Woah… woaahhh!!"

So this is what they call magic. Impressive. The lightning left cracks and even some shallow holes.

Suddenly, there's a knock on the door.

"Hey!! Rick, what the hell are you doing? My room was shaking!"

Ah, that's the guy from the room next door.

I opened the door, and standing there was a familiar blond-haired guy—Leon, from Class 1-C. He was one of Derrick's friends and also took part in the siege of Caine. By the way, he called me Rick, huh? Must be a nickname for Derrick.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"I was just testing out some magic."

"Don't do that here, idiot! Use the training grounds!"

"Yeah, yeah… you're so loud."

I slammed the door shut.

Well… it was my fault too.

---

After that, people began to take notice of me. Derrick, who used to harass commoner students and constantly flaunted his noble status, now appeared calmer and always kept to himself.

There wasn't any special reason for it. Mostly, I just couldn't bring myself to act like the noisy, arrogant Derrick.

But for the upcoming siege on Caine, it has to unfold exactly as it did in the game. No matter what, that event is a turning point.

---

At night, when everyone else is asleep, I train—push-ups, squats, and other exercises.

After finishing, I sit down, gasping for air.

"Damn… I'm really not used to this."

How long has it been since I last worked out?

Back on Earth, my life consisted of eating and gaming. I only left the house to go to the supermarket.

Honestly, I hate exercising like this. But I don't have much of a choice.

My magic is weak. So I need to at least have something else I can rely on.

Sleepiness started to wash over me...
