Rain's Point of View
The first thing I felt was pain.
Not the dull, aching kind you get from a fall or a punch — no, this was sharp, vicious, biting pain that radiated from the side of my stomach like someone was twisting a burning knife inside me. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to think. Every little movement sent fresh waves of agony crashing through me.
My lips tasted like blood. Thick, metallic, and bitter. I could feel it dried and cracked on my skin.
"Fuck," I rasped.
My eyes snapped open.
And just like that — whatever hope I had of peace or death slipped through my fingers.
Sitting right beside me, too close, like he belonged there, was Kai. That smug, insufferable bastard. His face was twisted into a crooked grin, like this was some sort of joke, like watching me half-dead was entertainment for him.
I didn't know what he was smiling about, but I knew whatever was going through his twisted mind, it wasn't good.
