In a world where the once pesky insects are the beasts that kill the world instead of humans, humans are pushed to the brink of extinction. We follow along with a boy named Icarus. His mother gave him the name to remind him to not forget what's real and what's just a tale told.
The humans live in small cities in the forest, they try their best to hide, and only humans that can pull their weight is allowed. Its survival of the finest, where the elderly and sick get thrown out and the pregnant are forced to go to another city until they give birth. The children are put in strict academies to learn to hunt for food and supplies. Icarus is thrown out of this society, and must learn to live on his own and avoid the powerful. But what if he can make it all work out?
