Chapter 69 The Adventures of the Old Malfoy Trio
Sometimes the world is like this: some things weigh less than an ounce until they're put on a scale, and then they can suddenly weigh more than a thousand pounds.
As the currently most active force of the "pure-blood supremacy" faction in politics and society, Mr. Malfoy is actually one of the most pro-Muggle people in the wizarding world.
Without exception.
It's just that the arrogant Malfoy is fond of real Muggles (and only those in the upper class), not those Muggle-born wizards.
It must be known that there are no nobles in the wizarding world. The Sacred Twenty-Eight pure-blood families are not, let alone other pure-blood families. They only control resources and power, but that doesn't mean they can stand above other wizards and be called "nobles."
Only the Malfoy family is the sole noble family among the wizarding community—knighted by the Muggle King William the Conqueror himself, who also granted them land and built Malfoy Manor on this estate, where the family has lived for generations.
According to William the Conqueror's policy at the time, their title should have been Earl or Baron.
In the 16th century, the then Mr. Malfoy (Lucius I) even courted Elizabeth I. At this time, they didn't talk about Muggle blood being dirty or the tradition of maintaining pure wizarding blood.
In the early history of the Malfoy family, generations of Malfoys once held great influence in the "Order of Merlin." After all, they were the only wizards in contemporary society who truly held a Muggle title, a real "Sir."
This was a family with a flexible approach.
In the eyes of modern people, the Malfoys are the most vanguard anti-Muggle force, but for Slytherin, the founder who had to flee to remote areas to build Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a resistance force due to Muggle persecution, he might not have thought so.
Right now, Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets against Muggle power, coupled with Voldemort's cleansing of traitors, made the Malfoys, to say the least, not just a little scared but deeply worried and as restless as stray dogs.
They were almost scared to death.
The three old brothers tumbled through the bizarre, swirling light tunnel with countless twists and turns. Occasionally, they could even see glimpses of the Hogwarts sewers outside the light tunnel. Even Lucius, who always maintained his composure, couldn't help but cry out in surprise.
They had all heard about the legend of Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets, and even knew a tiny bit of the secret history, so they were all too clear about the situation before them.
Poof!
The three finally fell out of the light tunnel, landing on a muddy, filthy flat ground covered in animal bones. Before them stood an ancient door with two intertwined snakes.
Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets!
"Look quickly!" Old Goyle's terrified voice was sharp and distorted as he pointed a trembling finger at the wall beside the door.
By the dim light cast from an unknown source, they could clearly see several lines of bloody words on the wall.
——The Chamber of Secrets has been opened.
——Enemies of the Heir, beware.
——All who betray me and declare themselves against me will be punished!
Old Crabbe grabbed Lucius's arm tightly in fear, trembling and unable to speak. Lucius wanted to appear brave, but at this moment, he felt as if a motor had been installed in his mouth, chattering incessantly.
Just then, an extremely terrifying, dull grinding sound echoed at the end of the empty passage.
The stone door before them was slowly moving, dust falling from it from time to time. A cold, fishy stench vaguely wafted from the crack in the door, accompanied by a chilling wind.
The three instinctively huddled together, watching the scene before them in horror.
The gap in the opening stone door continued to widen, and they could faintly hear the heavy breathing of a huge beast.
"Run!" Old Goyle suddenly roared, forcefully drawing his wand and holding it in front. His fleshy face was full of determination.
Old Crabbe seemed to have reacted as well, forcefully picking up the stiff Lucius and shoving him desperately into the pipe behind them. Turning around and leaning against the pipe to support Lucius's body, he looked so scared, yet he still gritted his teeth and held his wand tightly, preventing Lucius from coming out.
"Go quickly!" Old Crabbe screamed heartbreakingly, "Take care of our descendants, go!"
The huge beast inside the stone door seemed to have been awakened by their shouts, its heavy body rumbling as it charged towards them.
Bang!
It crashed into the stone door, the immense force causing the door to slam shut again, but it continued to ram into the door regardless.
Boom!
Boom!
Each impact seemed to want to completely destroy this underground structure. Lucius and the others felt violent shaking everywhere.
The stone door clearly wouldn't last long.
Lucius quickly pulled at old Crabbe, who was blocking behind him, and shouted at old Goyle, who was determined to hold off the monster, "Take this chance, let's all run together! Quick, don't miss the opportunity!"
Old Crabbe and old Goyle's minds were always slow. Having always been accustomed to following Malfoy's arrangements, they hurriedly squeezed into the pipe together and ran quickly inside.
Soon, a huge cracking sound faintly came from behind them. Clearly, the monster had completely destroyed the stone door, and its terrifying roar echoed through the pipes.
"Aaaaaah~~" Old Goyle screamed in terror.
"Shut up!" Lucius cursed angrily, "Monsters living in the dark might not have good eyesight. Everyone shut their mouths, maybe it won't notice where we are!"
But old Goyle's terrified shouts clearly pointed the way for the monster. The terrifying, heavy footsteps rapidly approached from far away.
Lucius signaled them all to shut their mouths and ran anxiously ahead, finally reaching a fork in the pipes.
He quickly turned back and signaled his two followers to lighten their steps, directing them to climb into the pipe on the right that required jumping to reach. After both of them were up, he was also pulled up by old Crabbe and, drawing his wand, cast a concealment charm on the area.
He also cast a charm to hide their scent and sound on everyone, and they began to run together into the depths of the pipes.
But soon, the pipes became narrow, and they had to bend over. Finally, they had to slowly crawl inside, supporting themselves with both hands on the ground.
It was very embarrassing.
But it was also a good thing. The smaller pipes meant that the monster, which might be very large, couldn't squeeze in!
Moreover, such narrow pipes had too many branches. They began to constantly choose one path and erase their tracks as they went.
They didn't know how long they had been running. Their bodies began to feel tired, their breathing became heavy, and they could faintly hear the monster's sounds coming from an unknown direction, as if it would burst out from any of the branches at any moment.
They began to panic.
Just then, the pipe near old Goyle suddenly made a sound like scales scraping against the stone wall of the pipe. A terrible fear instantly filled the hearts of the three. They were all so scared that they froze like quail, only able to listen helplessly to the monster's roaring approach and the blood flowing from the wounds caused by the monster squeezing through the pipe.
No!
I don't want to die!
Lucius could see the despair in old Crabbe's eyes beside him. He didn't know why, but as he gritted his teeth and held his wand, panting, he suddenly felt this fear in his heart receding.
Anyway, looking at the vaguely approaching terrifying thing in the darkness, he forcefully raised his wand and roared, "Repel with all our strength!"
Boom!
The magic worked. The terrifying monster seemed to have been blasted away and crashed into the depths of the pipe, letting out a miserable howl.
"Go!!!!"
He forcefully pulled one with each hand, rushing madly towards a slightly wider pipe to the side, running for his life!
But this was just the beginning of the nightmare!
No matter where they ran, even climbing up the pipes with magic, the monster would chase after them.
Several times, a full several times, they brushed past death!
The most terrifying time was when the monster suddenly tore downwards from the pipe above. Although they couldn't see the monster's specific appearance, Lucius's shoulder blade was instantly bitten off in one bite.
If old Goyle hadn't pushed him hard at that moment, it would probably have been his head that was bitten off!
Such attacks continued relentlessly. Along the way, all three of them suffered varying degrees of injury, and blood stained their once magnificent wizard robes. Despair surged into their hearts again.
Because…
They had run haphazardly in panic and seemed to have reached a dead end!
The pipe here had collapsed!
Strange vines, they didn't know how long they had been here, thick branches entwining and binding every stone tightly, impossible to push.
"Quick, go back the way we came!"
Lucius made a decisive decision and was about to lead them back when they heard the monster's roar again from the pipe behind them.
There was no way back!
The blood completely drained from the faces of the three of them.
Lucius forcefully raised his wand, aiming it at the depths of the dark pipe, his face full of bitterness. He looked at his two old brothers. "Goyle, Crabbe, will you blame me for leading you to follow the Dark Lord back then?"
Old Goyle shook his head. "Goyle and Crabbe share wealth and danger with the Malfoys. We swore an oath that we would never regret anything we encountered!"
Old Crabbe forcefully kicked away a piece of rubble beside him, his face turning grim as he stared fixedly at the monster in the depths of the pipe. He looked at the two of them. "Let's release Fiendfyre and burn it to death!"
Old Goyle was stunned for a moment. "That will burn us to death too!"
Old Crabbe grinned, a strange sense of pleasure appearing on his憨憨 face. "Then let's die together!"
"Die together?" Old Goyle murmured.
"Good!" Lucius combed his slicked-back hair with his fingers, wanting to look a bit presentable before he died. He laughed loudly, looking at his two old brothers. "Die together! Are you afraid?"
Old Crabbe licked his lips. "Not afraid. I know Draco is a good boy, he will take good care of my son. I'm not afraid to die!"
Old Goyle trembled, the fat on his cheeks shaking. "I'm afraid, I'm so afraid to die…"
But he still raised his hand and seriously waved his magic gestures, looking at the two of them. "Shall we cast Fiendfyre together?"
"Good!" Lucius endured the sharp pain in his shoulder and forcefully raised his wand.
The three wands were held together, aimed at the direction of the increasingly approaching rumbling sound in the pipe.
Just then, the collapsed pipe behind them suddenly made a strange noise.
They turned back in astonishment and saw the vines coiling around large stones, lifting them high and moving them to the sides, revealing a passage filled with light.
In the passage of light, Lockhart, waving his wand and controlling everything, walked forward slowly.
"Great, you're here!" Lockhart gave his standard perfect smile, so radiant. "I've been looking for you for a long time!"
In that instant, Lucius and the other two seemed to see light!
