The room was still quiet, except for the faint ticking of the wall clock .
Then, out of nowhere, she turned slightly and asked, "How long have you known Victor?"
The question landed like a stone in Stella's stomach. She blinked, trying to keep her expression neutral. Her body stiffened slightly, but she quickly relaxed her shoulders, schooling her face into a calm, casual look.
"A couple of months," she replied, rolling her eyes like it was no big deal. "Why do you ask?" She turned to face Sarah fully now, her tone light.
Sarah didn't answer right away. Instead, she gave Stella a long, suspicious look—one of those looks that could see past makeup and straight into secrets. Despite Stella's collected front, her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might break her ribs.
Then Sarah tilted her head slightly and spoke again, "Are you sure it's just a couple of months? Nothing going on behind the scenes?" She arched a brow. "Come on, girlfriend. Don't lie to me."
