Chapter 293 Ability Less, Responsibility Less
The person wearing the White Hood had a crisp voice, with a hint of girlish playfulness in her tone. Her exposed chin looked fair and firm, leading Yang Le to judge that she was a girl no older than 24.
But this girl spoke in an incredibly obscure and difficult-to-understand manner. Technical Terms he'd never heard before tumbled from her mouth one after another, leaving Yang Le utterly bewildered.
"You don't seem very scared of me?" the girl asked with interest, observing the wary Yang Le across from her. Aside from the initial fright when she appeared, the fear in his expression had gradually faded over Time.
"Judging by the looks of you, you must be a superhuman, right?" Yang Le sighed, feeling helpless. "If you wanted to attack, you would have done it already. No need to waste so many Words on me. Deciding the Fate of an Ordinary Person shouldn't be too difficult for you, right?"
"What if I'm an irrational madman like the Joker?" the girl retorted, turning her Body to lie fully on the White Frame, showcasing her attractive Figure. She even raised a Leg, her plump, jade-white thigh causing Yang Le to discreetly swallow his Saliva.
"What if I'm just the kind of third-rate Villain who loves to spout nonsense?"
"This is the Watchtower, Superhero Headquarters."
Yang Le shifted his Line of Sight from the girl's thigh. This action, which he thought was discreet, was completely obvious to the girl. It was like Students making secret gestures in Class, thinking they were being subtle, when in reality, the Teacher sees everything clearly.
To use a classic shooting Game analogy, it's like shooting down from a high vantage point at a fool below...
The girl smiled slyly, completely unconcerned by Yang Le's gaze. She even subtly shifted into a more suggestive Gesture, knowing it would boost her Comics Sales. Otherwise, why would she hold such a pose that could give her a brain aneurysm? It's all for Sales!
But such a small action was somewhat at odds with her persona, so a little tease was enough. Going overboard would be too cliché.
"It seems even with Memory loss, you've retained your Calm demeanor." The girl shifted back to a normal posture, appearing nonchalant, though her Head was still slightly dizzy from being upside down for so long.
Yang Le remained silent, outwardly composed but inwardly terrified. He desperately hoped someone from the Justice League would notice something amiss in the Guest Room. After a day of such terrifying experiences, Yang Le's nerves were stretched taut like a piece of wire repeatedly bent and broken, ready to snap at any moment.
"Let's reintroduce ourselves." The girl extended her Right Hand from the Frame. "I'm Gwenpool, that's my Code Name. As for my Real Name, you can wait until you remember it. Oh, and I already know your name, so no need to waste Time telling me."
Yang Le hesitantly took Gwenpool's Hand, fearing she might pull him into the White Frame. He had no idea what kind of Space lay within, and what if it was something terrifying?
"Alright, that's that." Gwenpool shook his hand briefly and withdrew her Right Hand, adopting a businesslike demeanor like a tax official. Her serious expression was a stark contrast to her previous playfulness.
"Because of the Emergency situation, please don't interrupt me while I speak, to avoid wasting Time."
'Emergency situation and you were just rambling on?' Yang Le stared speechlessly at Gwenpool. Her serious Expression now seemed utterly incongruous.
"First, take this." Gwenpool reached into her Fanny Pack and tossed something to Yang Le. He caught it and saw it was something resembling a USB Drive. The Metal casing looked unremarkable, with only a Symbol imprinted on it.
The Symbol was a circle, containing a green hourglass-like Symbol within. Yang Le didn't recognize it, yet it felt strangely familiar.
"And lastly, find the Blue Shadow that attacked you. That Shadow is..." Gwenpool was cut short as a rapid Alarm Sound blared from her waist.
Upon hearing the Alarm Sound, Gwenpool instantly retreated into the White Frame without hesitation. Then, before Yang Le's Shocked eyes, the White Frame vanished. The Corridor was empty, as if everything had been a figment of his imagination.
"Huh?" Yang Le was utterly bewildered. What was that all about? What Shadow was she talking about? I didn't skip any dialogue at the crucial moment, so why did it cut off like that?
However, none of that was the most crucial point. The real question was, how credible were the Words of this Strange Costumes girl who called herself Gwenpool?
If that Blue Shadow intended to kill him, wouldn't approaching it be like walking into the lion's den? After all this talk, Gwenpool hadn't provided any real Evidence.
Holding the 'USB Drive' up to his eyes, Yang Le was caught in a dilemma. To believe or not to believe, that was the Problem...
Of course, he'd hand it over to the Justice League. No way around it, he was just a Commoner. Even if he'd been powerful before, it was irrelevant now. Ability less, responsibility less, let the Superheroes handle it.
As for some secret awakening and then astonishing everyone? Don't be ridiculous. Reality isn't a Movie. Just because a pretty girl pops up and says a few Words, Yang Le should risk his Life to investigate something unknown? He didn't consider his Life that expendable.
Reality wasn't a Movie, and Yang Le didn't need to rush things.
If the sky were to fall, there were taller people to hold it up. Even if the Superheroes thought he needed to contact the Blue Shadow, they'd surely send someone to protect him, one way or another. Whether they could actually protect him was another question, but at least the psychological Comfort was there.
Having reasoned this out, Yang Le hurried to the Watchtower Conference Room, handed over the USB Drive Gwenpool had given him, and recounted everything Gwenpool had told him to the Justice League members.
However, because Yang Le's English wasn't particularly good, there were some Technical Terms he hadn't understood, so he had to gloss over them vaguely. This resulted in the Justice League members also being quite confused.
No way around it, Yang Le couldn't speak English when he first regained Consciousness. Thankfully, Old Huang, who found him, gave him intensive tutoring, allowing him to manage daily communication, but that was the extent of it. After all, he lived in predominantly Chinese communities where English wasn't often needed, so his English remained at a basic conversational level.
But this wouldn't stump the Justice League. Surely they had a Method.
"Mr. Yang Le," Martian Manhunter stepped forward again. "If you don't object, would you mind if I read your Brain again?"

In a Space outside of any Universe, Gwenpool stomped her foot in frustration.
"FK! FK Martian Manhunter! I was just one sentence away from finishing! Would it kill you to let me finish?!" Gwenpool pulled a bizarre-looking Device from her Fanny Pack and hurled it onto the Ground.
"And this Shielding Device! Couldn't it have Shielding for just a little longer? If these Comics sell now, Readers will label me as an unreliable Comedic Character!"
