Chapter 288 Conversation
In a pitch-black space, Ororo Munroe kept running. She wanted to escape this space as soon as possible. This pitch-black space where she couldn't see her fingers made her feel fear. The only thing that allowed her to discern direction was a white dot in front of her.
The white dot visible in this dark space was undoubtedly the white light representing the exit. The fear in her heart was eroding Ororo Munroe's reason. She couldn't afford to overthink. Every second spent here was torment. She immediately rushed towards the exit in a flurry.
She ran for an unknown time, maybe a year, maybe just seconds. In any case, when Ororo Munroe came back to her senses, the white dot became larger and larger due to the distance. When she got closer, Ororo Munroe finally saw the true identity of the white dot.
"Ahhhhh!" Ororo Munroe screamed, losing her voice. The thing in front of her was extremely familiar. It was the heavy metal door of the prison where she was held.
Ororo Munroe subconsciously turned around to flee, but bumped into a wall. She fell to the ground on her butt. Her hands groped around, only to find that cold walls had been built around her at some point. Even a ceiling had appeared above her head at some point. The originally vast dark space had instantly turned into a narrow prison where she couldn't even stand up.
It was as if a pair of invisible hands were gripping Ororo Munroe's throat. She felt difficulty breathing, almost unable to breathe at all. Immense fear instantly engulfed her.
"No!" Ororo Munroe screamed miserably and sat up. When she opened her eyes, she realized that she was not in that narrow prison. Instead, she was in a peculiar wooden room. Although the room was not large, it was by no means small. In addition, the window near the bedside was wide open, which would not make Ororo Munroe sick.
"What is this...?" Ororo Munroe came to her senses and finally calmed her rapid breathing. At this moment, she heard the sound of the door being pushed open.
Ororo Munroe looked warily in the direction of the sound. A strange but beautiful woman walked in. In one of her hands, she was holding a wooden bowl, which seemed to contain food.
"You're awake," Jean first looked at Ororo Munroe with surprise, but then frowned. "Your spirit is not very stable yet. It's best if you don't get up for now."
"Who are you?" Ororo Munroe's face was full of wariness. One hand subconsciously grabbed the blanket on her body, while the other hand was raised and pointed at Jean.
Facing Ororo Munroe's threat, Jean didn't seem to care much. She still said with a smile, "My name is Jean Grey. You can call me Jean. Like you, I am also a mutant. We are compatriots."
As she spoke, Jean used her telekinesis to control the bowl in her hand to float towards Ororo Munroe on the bed. Only then did the latter see clearly what was in the bowl: a white soup base with pieces of corn and potato floating on top. Based on the milky aroma, this should be a bowl of milk corn soup.
"Glug." Ororo Munroe swallowed a mouthful of saliva. Her long life as an experiment had meant that she hadn't eaten such delicious food in a long time. The fragrant milky aroma was making her lose her mind.
"Eat," Jean smiled gently. "This was originally prepared for you. After eating, get a good night's sleep. I hope the lavender planted has helped you."
Ororo Munroe's peripheral vision caught the purple color at the window. She had long smelled a faint fragrance that made her feel at ease, but it had been overwhelmed by the milk soup, causing her to forget it for a moment.
'Although I don't know who planted these lavender, such a person should not be a bad person,' Ororo Munroe weighed in her heart. Jean was not in a hurry either, just waiting quietly for the other party.
'Forget it! Even if I die, I'll die a full ghost!' Ororo Munroe hardened her heart, took the wooden bowl in the air. Because of the long standoff just now, the milk soup had become lukewarm, but it was just right to eat.
Ororo Munroe took a small sip and was immediately captured by the rich milky aroma and the faint corn smell. She no longer hesitated and began to eat in big mouthfuls.
Jean looked at the ravenously eating Ororo Munroe with pity and said, "Don't rush. There's more. Be careful not to choke or get choked."
It didn't take long for Ororo Munroe to eat the soup completely clean. In the wooden bowl, only a few corn cobs lay there forlornly.
Maybe she ate too fast, Ororo Munroe couldn't help but burp. Because it carried the smell of milk, it should be a milk burp.
In the quiet room, this burp was extremely clear. Ororo Munroe's face turned red. Jean seemed not to have heard it, and just used telekinesis to take back the wooden bowl.
"Rest well. Of course, this is just a suggestion. If you want to go out for a walk, I won't stop you either. Here, there are only our compatriots. No bad person will come back to harm you," Jean said softly, and was about to turn around and leave.
"Wait!" Ororo Munroe called out to Jean, who was about to leave. Jean didn't speak, just turned around and looked at her.
"Did you save me?" Ororo Munroe asked.
"Yes," Jean nodded. "Saving compatriots is our duty. There are still many compatriots in this world waiting for us to save."
"Can I join you?" Ororo Munroe's eyes were firm, but Jean, with her spirit and mind power, could see that there were other emotions mixed in.
Such as anger, hatred, and fear.
Jean sighed. Many mutants who were rescued were like Ororo Munroe in front of her. They wanted revenge against the humans who had damaged them, rather than to save their partner.
'It seems that long-term psychological counseling will be needed later,' Jean thought secretly in her heart, and did not forget to answer Ororo Munroe verbally.
"That depends on your recovery status. After you recover your health, you can submit an application, and someone will judge whether you are qualified."
Without agreeing or refusing, Jean just gave Ororo Munroe a goal to strive for to stabilize her first. When Ororo Munroe stabilized, it would also be convenient for the psychologist's next treatment.
As for who the psychologist is? That is of course Jean herself. She is the strongest mind power user in Eisenhardt Academy since Charles Xavier. Naturally, she serves as the mental health teacher and psychologist and other positions in the school. This also happens to help her train her own ability.
Jean waited for a while. Seeing that Ororo Munroe was no longer speaking, she prepared to turn around and leave again. But she heard a sound coming from behind her again, but this time it was no longer to stop her.
"Ororo Munroe, just call me Ororo."
"Understood," The corner of Jean's mouth slightly raised. It seemed that this patient did not require her to expend much mental effort.
"Rest well."
Ororo Munroe watched Jean push the door open and leave, leaning blankly against the bedside. She didn't know what she was thinking in her heart. She subconsciously looked at the lavender by the bed and actually felt a hint of sleepiness. Unconsciously, she fell asleep again.
And all of this was fully seen by Yang Le, relying on the lavender. Yang Le finally confirmed based on Ororo Munroe's name that the person they rescued was the Omega-Level Mutant, Storm.
