Chapter 77 - Chapter 77 – Summoning Beasts Are Reasonable Creatures

Under Jiraiya's guidance, Namikaze Minato meticulously followed each step of the summoning contract process.

He had been envious of Kaien's Phantom Beast for a while now. In its resting state, it looked like a regular black cat with sharp sensory abilities—but in battle, it transformed like magic into a sleek, pitch-black panther. Too cool for words.

...

Outside the camp, in an open field.

The damp, dew-soaked grass clung to their feet, making them dislike the Land of Rain's environment even more.

After finding a suitable spot, Namikaze Minato and Uchiha Kaien each formed hand seals, preparing to summon their first contract beast.

If they summoned a juvenile, they'd likely have to raise it themselves—just like Naruto did with Gamakichi.

But snakes... probably didn't need that kind of care, right?

Kaien decided to increase the amount of chakra he was channeling and shot Minato a glance, signaling him to do the same.

Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey, Ram—each seal stirred the chakra inside them, spreading out in intricate patterns beneath their feet like ancient runes.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

"Summoning Jutsu!"

Poof!Poof!

Thick smoke exploded from the ground. Judging by the size of the clouds, the creatures they summoned were definitely high-tier.

"Orochimaru, you've summoned me again. Got my offering ready this time? I want a hundred live sacrifices."

The hissing voice echoed. A massive purple serpent head emerged from the smoke, scanning the area with narrowed eyes.

"Jiraiya, you've really been overusing the summoning lately, haven't you?"

A giant red toad appeared beside the snake—bandages wrapped around its torso, a short giant blade in hand, and a huge pipe clamped in its mouth.

"Oh, it's that stinking snake again. You trying to pick a fight?"

Gamabunta scanned the surroundings, spotting no enemy Rain shinobi nearby.

"Orochimaru, that toad's my sacrifice this time, right? I can't wait... ssssss..."

Neither of the summoning beasts seemed to realize that the ones who had called them weren't their usual summoners—but the two kids standing in front of them.

"Hmph. Manda, I didn't summon you this time—my student, Uchiha Kaien, did," Orochimaru said calmly, brushing off the demand for sacrifices. No way was he going to lose face in front of his disciple.

"And Gamabunta," Jiraiya added, "you were summoned by my student—Namikaze Minato."

Compared to Manda, Gamabunta was more reasonable. He looked down at the blond boy, then glanced at Jiraiya and gave a subtle nod before turning to face off with the snake.

Both Jiraiya and Orochimaru could see the surprise in the summoning beasts' eyes. They hadn't expected their students to summon their personal contract beasts on the first try.

It took chakra reserves on par with a Jonin to pull that off—clearly impressive. Their shock was laced with a trace of pride.

Minato was ten and a half, nearly eleven. To possess such a level of chakra at his age was outstanding.

Kaien, born in June, was about five months younger than Minato—but in terms of chakra capacity, he outclassed him by at least two tiers.

Well, that's the perk of being overpowered.

Minato could only edge Kaien out in speed. In every other stat, he was completely outmatched, making him seem fragile—like he'd shatter with one hit.

But in truth, both Minato's physical constitution and chakra reserves were top of the line for his age group.

...

"Hey. You're Manda, right?"

Kaien found the snake's arrogance annoying. Sure, Manda was among the top-tier summons—but he was noisy as hell.

"For someone at your level, there's really no need to shout, is there?"

Kaien's Sharingan flickered to life. The moment Manda lowered his head, a flash of red glinted in his eyes—and the serpent slumped in silence.

"Genjutsu: Sharingan."

Kaien's three-tomoe Sharingan had been steadily honed and now teetered at the edge of its limit. Boosted by his [Alluring Gaze] trait, his genjutsu was already comparable to the Mangekyō Sharingan's.

Mangekyō-level genjutsu could suppress even tailed beasts—let alone a giant summoning beast with only Jonin-level chakra.

Creatures like Manda dominated the battlefield not because of technique, but because of their size, brute strength, and raw chakra. Most shinobi simply lacked the tools to deal with them.

But against a skilled elite Jonin, their usefulness dropped sharply.

And Kaien had no patience for a glorified monster whose only value was stomping mobs to death.

He was far more interested in Ryuchi Cave's Sage Mode. Natural energy was one of the few forces that could harm enemies on par with the Sage of Six Paths.

...

With the genjutsu in place, the tomoe pattern now gleamed in Manda's pupils. The sudden shift made Gamabunta instinctively step back.

If Kaien could control Manda that easily, that meant he could do the same to him. That thought alone was enough to make Gamabunta clam up.

Jiraiya's jaw dropped.

Every time Orochimaru summoned Manda, he'd demand a sacrifice—that alone had left Jiraiya with a bad impression.

But now? Manda was subdued by a mere glance.

Just one look... and he got taken over?

That's the power of the Sharingan?

Jiraiya swallowed hard. This kid had a temper—and clearly, he wasn't shy about showing it. He started to wonder how Minato was getting along with Kaien.

But when he saw Minato's calm, matter-of-fact expression, he realized he'd worried for nothing. Those two had bonded deeply from the start—it was clear they got along just fine.

...

"Kaien..." Orochimaru gave a helpless sigh at the scene before him. He had his own complaints about Manda, but didn't expect his student to act so decisively.

"He was disrespectful to you, Orochimaru-sensei. And he was too loud. I mean, what's the point of being cocky when you're just going to get insta-killed anyway?"
