Rein's POV:
I walked to my room, planning to take a quick nap before nightfall. I pushed the door open and flopped onto my bed without bothering to change out of my clothes.
But before I could even blink, my door was shoved open and guards stormed in.
"What—?" I barely managed to say before the room was overrun. They began searching every nook and cranny without explanation. I sat up in shock as drawers were yanked open, sheets ripped off, and every shadow uncovered.
Then one of the guards' eyes met mine. He nodded to his partner, who immediately grabbed me by the arm and yanked me upright, locking me in place.
They lifted my bed, and that was when it happened.
My book—the very one I had hidden so carefully—was dragged out like a criminal in chains.
"I found something. Let's report it to the Minister," one of them said coldly, as if I were not even there.
He shoved me aside like I was nothing more than trash blocking his path.
