Ashley's face lost all color, her phone slipping from her ear. The officer had just delivered heartbreaking news about Madison.
Lorenzo's brows furrowed as he stepped closer.
"What's wrong, babe?"
Ashley turned to him, her heart pounding wildly.
"Madison," she whispered. "The police found her... she's dead."
Lorenzo's expression fell. He pulled her into a hug, feeling how much she was shaking. He knew how deeply she cared for everyone who worked with her grandparents.
"Her mother..." Ashley's voice cracked. Her throat felt dry. She didn't know the woman well, but any mother would be crushed to lose a child—especially one who was already unwell.
"I'm really sorry," Lorenzo murmured against her hair.
Just then, Ashley caught sight of Katelyn's car driving past, with Vanessa sitting in the back seat. For a moment, the world around her faded. Her eyes followed the silver car until it disappeared from view.
