The first Chūnin exam—a written test!
As soon as Naruto and his companions walked into the examination room, they were stunned by the densely packed crowd.
They didn't expect so many people to take the Chūnin exam!
As soon as Kabuto, who was hiding in the crowd, saw Sasuke coming in, he took the initiative to talk to him and, like a caring older brother, shared information on several strong contestants participating in the competition.
As a result, three Oto-nin grew dissatisfied and attacked him directly. The four of them teamed up to stage a performance in front of Sasuke, hoping to intimidate him and eventually draw him toward Orochimaru.
Unexpectedly, Naruto loudly opened fire from the back of the classroom.
"Listen to me! I'm Uzumaki Naruto, the future Hokage! I'm not afraid of any of you!"
All the Genin in the room froze and quickly stepped away from Naruto.
Even Sasuke quietly took two steps back.
Although Naruto was indeed strong now, there were over two hundred people in the room. If each of them spit at once, they could drown them all. Better to keep some distance from someone this impulsive.
Sure enough, a few ninjas from other villages were about to cause trouble after hearing Naruto's declaration when a cloud of smoke suddenly exploded in front of the classroom.
A burly man wearing a forehead protector appeared, followed by a dozen Chūnin.
"All of you trash, quiet down! The first round of the Chūnin exam starts now—the written test!"
"I'm your proctor for the first exam—Morino Ibiki!"
"Listen up! In this classroom, I'm the boss. Anyone who dares disobey my orders will be kicked out immediately!"
Under Ibiki's forceful pressure, everyone obediently sat down and began the exam.
"Nani?!" Naruto cried out. "A written test?!"
"No one told me this would be written! I didn't even bring a pen—what do I do?!"
"Dizzy~~~" The surrounding Genin all facepalmed.
This guy didn't even bring a pen—was that even possible?
Thankfully, Shino had a spare and passed it to Naruto, solving the immediate issue.
Unfortunately, once the test began, Naruto never used the pen.
He was horrified to realize he couldn't answer a single question.
"I'm doomed!" Naruto thought, trembling. "I just have to pray for the final question!"
Unlike Naruto, the others performed quite well on this exam.
Sasuke immediately activated his Sharingan and copied the movements of a top student-looking guy, filling out his answers smoothly.
Sakura, a top student herself, was the only one in the entire room aside from the two hidden Chūnin who could answer all the questions perfectly.
Ino used the Mind Body Switch Technique to read Sakura's answers once she finished.
Shino, Kiba, Neji, Rock Lee, and the others also completed their papers using different strategies, just as in the original timeline.
One notable change: Shikamaru.
In the original, he waited for Ino to finish and then had her write for him using her jutsu. But now, with the powers of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit, he didn't need that. He simply manipulated others' shadows to write answers on his test while analyzing Ibiki's strategy. He even spotted the two disguised Chūnin.
Finally, time reached the last fifteen minutes, and Ibiki prepared to announce the tenth question.
As in the original series, he used psychological pressure to eliminate the unprepared, resulting in even more dropouts than those caught cheating.
Once again, Naruto fired a "Event of cannon," boldly declaring that he would never give up, reigniting everyone's spirits and helping many pass the first exam.
Afterward, Mitarashi Anko made her flashy entrance, announcing that the second round would be held at Training Ground No. 44.
At this point, Anko still had a captivating figure. Her black stockings showcased her mature charm, completely different from her "sweet potato" look in Boruto.
However, her eccentric entrance shocked many candidates, who now classified her as unreliable and lumped her in with Naruto.
Outside Training Ground No. 44—
"This is the testing site for the second round!" Anko announced, pointing toward the forest behind her.
"Training Ground No. 44, better known as the Forest of Death!"
The candidates stared at the fenced-off woods and felt an ominous chill. Many were visibly nervous.
Especially Naruto, who clung to Sasuke's arm and trembled.
"Hey, sensei, there aren't any ghosts in there, right?" he asked nervously.
"Who knows?" Anko replied with a sly smile.
"Is this proctor really reliable?" Sakura murmured.
No matter how she looked at her, Anko reminded her of a female version of Naruto—chaotic and eccentric.
"Alright, candidates, gather up!" Anko shouted. "Time to explain the rules of the second exam!"
"It's gonna be fun!" she added, licking the corner of her mouth with a smirk.
"The rules are simple!" she said, pointing to a tall tower visible in the center of the forest.
"Each team will be given one scroll—either the Heaven Scroll or the Earth Scroll."
"Your mission: obtain the opposite scroll and arrive at the tower in the center within five days!"
"That tower is where the third exam will be held."
"If you fail to complete the task in time, or if you peek at the scroll's contents during the exam—you're disqualified!"
"Oh, now this feels like a real Chūnin exam!" Naruto said, excited. "Written tests are the worst!"
"What's next? Am I supposed to recite hand signs during battle?" he grumbled.
"Seize the scroll?!" Sakura exclaimed.
"That means less than half of us will even pass!"
The crowd was buzzing with shock—some couldn't accept how cruel the rules were.
"Half?" Anko sneered. "You underestimate the Forest... and what it means to be Chūnin."
With that, she waved her hand and officially began the second exam.
"What a drag!" Shikamaru muttered, taking his team's scroll and heading into the forest with a stalk of grass between his teeth.
"Hey, Naruto! Don't get lost in there, you moron!" Kiba shouted before disappearing into the woods.
"Let's go!" Sasuke said coolly, hands in his pockets, leading his team forward.
Shortly after they left, Gaara also picked up his scroll and, without a word, walked into the forest with Kankuro and Temari close behind.
