Skye shut the door to her bedroom and pressed her back against it, her heart raced, like she had seen a ghost, but it wasn't a ghost. Her hands trembled as she turned the lock, she'd barely made it out of Leonard's study without falling apart. Her legs felt like glass and her chest was tight with nerves. What the hell had she just walked into?
King's eyes had followed her all the way out, it wasn't a calm look but an unreadable look. It wasn't hostile, but it definitely wasn't warm.
She hadn't meant to snoop, or maybe she had, she wasn't sure any more, she was sure he would tell Leonard and he would punish her, everything in this house felt tight, the walls felt like they were closing on her.
"I need to leave," she muttered under her breath, pulling her hands through her hair. "I need to breathe." She took in deep breaths, trying to calm herself from what she had seen. King could have just been working and getting some files, but it didn't feel like that.
