Chapter 6 - The Vents

It was surprisingly spacious . Avari Crawled through the vents , occasionally shivering from the cold air that was blown in . *Tzz...Tzz* , he could hear the static picking up . "Avari? , is this thing working?" .

Finally, he thought ."Of course. Any luck with the emergency exit?" , he had already guessed the answer to that question but he needed to know the layout of the ventilation system.

And her answer only confirmed his suspicions ," None so far ." , she paused about to say something else , making him wait anxiously , "I also found the staff's storeroom ."

"I see . Alright , let's keep going straight and you should reach the middle."

"Got it." , she said and hung up .

~~~
Meanwhile , in his mind , Avari was thinking of possible ways to get out of the predicament they had landed in , but there was something still bugging him at back of his mind .
Once more the static began to rise and just as quickly Cassy's voice came through. "I'm almost there , where are you?"
"On my way . " , replied quickly.
*Trr!!!!Trr!!!!*
*Aaghahaghhhh!!!!!!!!*
'Gunfire ... and that scream . This is getting bad isn't it?. Man my luck these past few days has been crap.' , Avari thought.
In the midst of the sudden shuddering sound of flying bullets , he could see light. The dark atmosphere of the shafts was fading away and in it's place the bright shine of morning light . He went on moving ahead , ahead that's where he could get help . That's where he could stop this madness before it got any more worse than it was now .
"Right , I've reached the middle ." , Cassandra was now reserved . She had to help out those people down there however , that instant firing and morbid scream had really caught here off guard and she couldn't help but get a bad feeling in her gut.
"Huh!? , where the heck are you!?" , he was nowhere in sight .
***************
Right before Cass had reached the middle of the vents , Avari kept moving towards where the light was . His thought process was dead stuck on his arrival from that dungeon and how he had even woken up there .
'Maybe it had something to do with the dragon .' ,he was totally oblivious to the fact that he was on his was down from center and at an alarming pace .
That's right , he hadn't noticed . The velocity at which he was sliding was fast , in fact too fast . If he fell onto land he would certainly ascertain serious injuries .
'Hold on. I'm falling!!!!!' ,he was in peril.
A surge of fear ran through his body from head to toe , springing his adrenaline plus conquest instinct to force his body to latch on to the cold metal pipes in the blink of an eye.
And that's when Cass arrived at the ventilation system's middle.
"Huh!? ,where the heck are you!?" .
"Sorry , but could you wait a few?" , he didn't have the time to argue at this
current moment .
"Why should I?" , she sounded furious .
"Well , I can give you about two reasons.", just a little convincing was what he thought would pacify the situation.
"You left me hanging here . ", still furious.
"Sorry , I'll explain later.", his voice calmed but still sounded jumpy since the rush of adrenaline hadn't left his body yet .
"Fine . But you don't know how it feels to be left hanging." , her voice resonated pouty but he was glad that she was calming down.
"Oh, I know , believe me I know." , he said .
'Man talk about the irony.' , thought looking at his current predicament.
****************
Moments later , Avari had successfully gotten out of trouble for the while and had instructed Cassandra to find a place to exit the building from . She crawled back to where she had started but this time chose the other path .
