Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Beneath the Deep

The salty wind that swept through Dock 13 was cold and restless, carrying with it whispers of what lay beneath. Ethan Cross stood at the edge of the Coral Tomb's entrance, the freshly obtained Abyssal Sigil pulsing with an eerie, rhythmic glow in his hand. The light throbbed like a heartbeat—alive, and very much aware.

Brandon adjusted his armored gauntlets, glancing at the symbol. "So... this thing really can control beasts from the deep?"

"Not control," Ethan corrected, sliding the relic into his inventory. "But it might let us form a bond. And we'll need all the help we can get."

With the Leviathan's awakening imminent, the next move needed to be precise. If they were going to stand a chance, they had to understand this relic. And only one NPC was said to possess the knowledge required: Professor Noam Dreyden, the reclusive Deep-Sea Scholar located in the Abyssal Archive—an ancient coral observatory submerged beneath the Sunken Mirror Reefs.

🧭 New Quest Received!

[Quest: Knowledge of the Abyss]

Objective: Take the Abyssal Sigil to Professor Noam Dreyden for analysis

Location: Abyssal Archive – Sunken Mirror Reefs

Difficulty: A

Reward: ???

Failure Penalty: Loss of artifact knowledge access

The journey wasn't simple. The Sunken Mirror Reefs were within contested waters between factions, often patrolled by Magisterium Arcanum naval constructs and Shadow Consortium pirate-hunters. They had to move smart and quiet.

Ethan activated the [Abyssal Veil] skill.

🌀 [Abyssal Veil Activated] – You become undetectable to monsters and players for 120 seconds unless in combat.

Cooldown: 300 seconds

The water shimmered around the party as the spell cloaked their movement. They swam through the sea tunnels carved out from glowing coral, avoiding aggressive fauna and patrol drones. Eventually, the ancient observatory emerged, suspended in a pocket of breathable air protected by an arcane dome.

Inside, coral shelves spiraled upward like towers, brimming with soaked tomes. And there, amid floating glyphs and crystalline orbs, floated Professor Noam Dreyden, a jellyfish-like humanoid NPC, bioluminescent and ethereal.

Noam floated toward them, three eyes blinking asynchronously. "What you carry pulses with power long buried. The Sigil... You are not meant to wield it."

"But I do," Ethan replied firmly. "I don't care who it was meant for. I need to know what it can do."

Noam rotated, its tendrils shifting like slow smoke. "Very well."

"According to the records," Noam said after a moment, "the Sigil once belonged to the Keepers of the Deep—ancient protectors of balance between sea and surface. It was designed to awaken and bind sentient sea beasts to a cause. The more worthy the bearer, the stronger the bond."

🧠 You have unlocked a new Relic Function: Abyssal Bonding.

You can now form a bond with one Deep-Sea beast. Bond strength scales with Charisma + Abyssal Affinity.

Passive Effect: While bonded, gain 10% damage resistance from aquatic enemies.

Ethan smirked, feeling the path ahead solidify.

🎯 New Objective Added to Quest: Seek out and bond with a Sea Guardian

Current Target Suggested: Tidelord Varesh – an ancient sea beast located near the Cavern of Tides

Noam added a warning: "But be warned… others seek to corrupt these guardians. Should the Magisterium Arcanum find them first, they will twist them into weapons of destruction."

🧱 GAME SYSTEM: World Progression Unlocked!

Players who reach Mythical Class or complete Abyssal Dungeon can now seek Relic Bonding with World Beasts.

Each Relic Bond affects:

Server-wide Elemental Balance

Dungeon Rewards

Region Control

Ethan turned to Brandon. "This changes everything. If we can secure Varesh before the Arcanum or Consortium, we'll have the sea on our side."

Brandon grinned. "So… race against time again?"

Ethan opened the World Map, pinning the Cavern of Tides as their next destination. "Let's move."

But before they could exit the Archive, a quake rattled the walls. A server-wide notification pulsed through every player's status window.

📢 GLOBAL SYSTEM MESSAGE

⚠️ Abyssal Pulse Detected.

The Leviathan has begun stirring beneath the trench.

Faction activity escalating near Dock 13.

Warning: Players who delay may forfeit control of underwater territories.

Back in Dock 13, defensive constructs flared to life. Faction ships loomed on the edges of visibility. War was coming.

But Ethan and Brandon were already diving toward the Cavern of Tides, against currents, time, and the odds.
