Ethan might have joined the team earlier, but when it came to winning the teammates over, Lane had an obvious advantage.
He was more sociable to begin with. Getting along with people had never been difficult for Lane, no matter what fake identity he took on. They were exceptions, of course - for example, Damien had initially been somewhat difficult to talk to, and Clara disliked him whether he was 'Xavier' or 'Lane' - but generally, if he wanted to be on friendly terms with someone, he would most likely succeed.
On top of that, while the members of Damien's team might have only met him once so far, when Lane had joined them for training, he had spent a few months working with them. He knew them well, and thus was able to make them feel more at ease around him. Almost like an old friend…
