It was true… it was all true.
I didn't even realize I was moving until the door slammed shut behind me. All I could feel was the burning in my lungs, the panic clawing its way up my throat like fire, and the deafening thunder of my own heartbeat in my ears.
Breathe, Olivia… I put a hand to my chest, clutching it desperately.
I couldn't.
My hand slammed against the wall for balance as I staggered down the corridor eager to get away from him. I sucked in air as quickly as I could but my lungs still remained tight.
It was all true about him being part of the mafia. Tomas had cleared that but I wanted to believe it wasn't and there was some sort of plausible explanation for this but that fight with him and Roman…the way he kept going at him even whilst being injured.
He was a monster.
I stumbled into a waiting alcove beside the nurses' station and leaned forward, palms on my knees, squeezing my eyes shut as I tried to steady the chaos inside me. It did not help.
