Liam leaned back in his chair, exhaling a slow breath as he closed the latest business report. His office was bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, the city skyline stretching far beyond the glass windows. He had just wrapped up a long meeting, one that left him with a minor headache but a sense of accomplishment.
Despite juggling Jujutsu Sorcery and his corporate empire, he managed to maintain an iron grip on his business. His sharp intellect and decisive leadership had earned him both admiration and respect.
Women in the office adored him—his charm, his confidence, the way he never faltered under pressure.
Men respected him—his keen instincts, unwavering authority, and ability to command a room with a single glance.
Yet, as always, his work was never done.
The sudden ring of his phone cut through the quiet. Glancing at the screen, he saw the caller ID: Akira Nakamura.
Liam sighed and picked up the call.
"Dad."
Akira laughed on the other side of the phone. "Finally! My prodigal son decides to grace me with his voice! I was starting to think you forgot your old man."
Liam rolled his eyes, leaning back in his chair. "I was working."
"Tsk. Work, work, work! You're acting like some corporate slave! You're rich, kid! Live a little!"
Liam scoffed. "Not all of us have the luxury to disappear to foreign countries and waste time doing whatever we want."
"Excuse me? 'Waste time'? I'll have you know, I'm currently enjoying a luxurious vacation with my beautiful daughter! We were just talking about you, by the way."
Liam arched a brow. "Sakura?"
"Yes! Your lovely stepsister, who, by the way, is doing better at life than you!"
Liam groaned. "Dad, she's twenty-five. Why are you talking like she's still a kid?"
"Because she's my little princess, and unlike you, she's not out here collecting women like goddamn Infinity Stones."
Liam nearly choked. "Excuse me?"
"Don't 'excuse me' me! Even she was saying how ridiculous it is! Akane, Mei Mei, Rika Amanai—oh, and don't think I don't know about Aiko, Bai Yue, and Mei Mei. You're like a walking romance manga protagonist!"
Liam pinched the bridge of his nose. "You do realize that's a dangerous assumption, right?"
"Oh? Dangerous how? Don't tell me you're actually innocent? Should I apologize for misjudging my son, the living embodiment of 'chick magnet' energy?"
Liam sighed. "You're acting like I have a harem or something."
"Don't you?"
Liam clenched his jaw. "I—NO!"
Akira clicked his tongue. "Tch, that's not what the news says. I read an article last week—'The Young and Mysterious CEO Who Has Every Woman Wrapped Around His Finger'—"
Liam slammed his fist on the desk. "Dad, do NOT believe those ridiculous tabloids!"
"Oh please, even Sakura said you give off 'shameless heartbreaker' vibes!"
A new voice cut into the call.
"It's true, Brother! I really miss your teasing comments."
Liam froze. "Sakura?"
Sakura Nakamura, the devil herself, laughed on the other end.
"You're basically the anime character that shows up with a smug smirk, has a deep voice, and gets all the female leads fawning over him."
"EXACTLY!" Akira chimed in. "Your own sister agrees!"
Liam groaned loudly. "Sakura, stop enabling him!"
She giggled. "What? It's fun! Also, I wouldn't mind having some cute sisters-in-law. Dad and I have already been discussing who'd make the best wife."
Liam felt his soul leave his body. "Are you two seriously making ranking lists of my potential wives?"
Akira cleared his throat. "We might have a top five."
Liam slammed his head on his desk.
Sakura added, "Oh, and just so you know, Dad and I have already planned the first wedding venue. It's gonna be extravagant!"
Liam snapped up. "THERE IS NO WEDDING!"
"Yet."
"STOP!"
Akira laughed. "Relax, kid! We're just saying, with the way you're going, it's bound to happen! And with all these wonderful ladies around you, why settle for one when you can have multiple?"
Liam gritted his teeth. "Unlike some people, I actually believe in commitment."
"Oh really? You? Commitment? HA!"
Sakura snorted. "Dad, I think he's in denial."
"Oh, definitely."
"That's it," Liam rubbed his temples, "I'm blocking both of you."
"Oh, come on! We're just getting started!"
"NOPE."
"Okay, fine. But real talk—when are you giving me grandkids?"
Liam froze again.
Sakura gasped dramatically. "Oh my god, yes! Babies! I NEED to be the cool aunt!"
"See? Your sister agrees!" Akira laughed. "Hurry up, kid! I'm not getting younger! I need little rascals to spoil!"
Liam slammed his phone onto the desk and ended the call.
"Fucking hell."
----
It was late at night when Liam finally decided to leave the office. The city streets were still alive, neon lights flickering, people going about their lives without a clue about the horrors lurking in the dark.
When he arrived home, Aiko greeted him at the door.
"Welcome back, Young Master."
Liam loosened his tie. "Where's Megumi?"
"He's back from school, currently in his room."
Liam nodded. "And Tsumiki?"
Aiko's expression hesitated for a fraction of a second.
"She's… not back yet."
Liam's brows furrowed. He glanced at the time—close to midnight.
Tsumiki wasn't the type to stay out late. She was kind, responsible, and always the one keeping Megumi in check. For her to be out this late without a word? Something was wrong.
"Aiko, call her friends. See if she's staying at one of their places."
"Understood."
As Aiko rushed off, Liam felt uneasy. His instincts screamed at him.
He pulled out his phone and dialed his bodyguards.
"Find Tsumiki. Search the city. Now."
They responded immediately, moving out. Liam, however, felt an unbearable weight settle in his chest. He had promised Toji he'd take care of them. Assured him. Swore that as long as he was around, nothing would happen to Megumi and Tsumiki.
If he failed...
Aiko returned, her face pale. "Sir… her friend mentioned something."
Liam turned sharply. "What?"
"She was last seen leaving with a junior named Fujinuma. They were talking about a…"
She swallowed.
"…A Test of Courage at Yasohachi Bridge."
Crash!
Liam's chair slammed against the floor as he stood up violently, his cursed energy flaring.
"FUCK!"
How could he have forgotten? The Yasohachi Bridge Incident—a moment in time he should have prevented. A mistake he could have avoided if he had just been paying attention.
His hands trembled as he grabbed his car keys. "I'm heading there—NOW!"
He didn't wait for a response. He was already out the door, sprinting toward his car.
The engine roared to life, tires screeching as Liam sped through the empty streets. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
Please be okay.
His mind raced with worst-case scenarios.
His foot slammed the gas pedal, pushing the car to its limits.
