Chapter 246 - Chapter 246: Ralph – Do I Have a Choice?

Kaizen's words completely blindsided Ralph.

He had never imagined Kaizen to be anything but ordinary. Yet here he was, someone connected to the very monsters Ralph had been investigating.

Ralph's mind raced. His thoughts churned, trying to keep pace with the sudden shift in reality.

Kaizen's proposal echoed in his head, forcing him to confront the gravity of his options.

According to instincts, Kaizen wasn't lying. But Ralph was left with two choices—both equally grim.

Cooperate with Kaizen or reject him.

But rejection wasn't truly an option. If he refused, Kaizen might kill him on the spot. Ralph wasn't confident he or Minibus could stand against Kaizen. The sight of shattered stones nearby only reaffirmed that fear.

If he agreed, he'd have to help Kaizen locate and eliminate other beings like Minibus. It would benefit him since they were naturally hostile toward each other. But it would also expose their identities to others, which came with its own dangers. Could Kaizen really be trusted to keep his word and ensure their safety? Or would Ralph and Minibus be discarded after serving their purpose?

In the end, did he even have a choice?

The bitter truth settled in Ralph's heart. He smiled wryly.

"Do I even have a choice?" he asked, lifting his gaze to Kaizen.

Kaizen's expression remained calm. "First, let's take care of your condition. Change out of those clothes and burn them. Follow me."

Ralph trailed behind Kaizen as they returned to the yard. Dominica and Wendy glanced up as they passed. Ralph avoided making eye contact, his mind still preoccupied.

Kaizen led Ralph into the cabin and handed him a set of old but clean clothes.

"I bought these but never wore them. They'll do for now," Kaizen said.

Ralph hesitated, then took the clothes.

"Thanks," he muttered. He couldn't remember the last time he'd worn something this intact.

Kaizen gestured toward a room. "Change quickly and let me know when you're done."

"Got it," Ralph replied.

After changing, Ralph stepped out to find Kaizen waiting.

"Let's head to the shed," Kaizen said.

They walked along the eaves, careful to avoid the heavy rain. The shed, built against the wooden house, offered some refuge. Dominica was already there, standing near a fire. Wendy sat beside her, while an empty stool awaited Ralph.

"Sit down," Kaizen instructed.

Ralph obeyed, his gaze flitting nervously between Dominica and Kaizen.

"Ralph," Kaizen began, his tone firm but calm, "show them Minibus."

Ralph hesitated but finally extended his hand, which shifted into the familiar form of the minibus.

"Hi, everyone! I'm Minibus," the minibus chirped nervously.

Wendy leaned closer, curious. Dominica's eyes narrowed slightly, scrutinizing the creature.

Kaizen explained his theory about the minibuses and their unique traits. Dominica's expression shifted as realization dawned.

"So that's why it's been so well-hidden," she murmured. "I see now. They can sense each other, can't they?"

Kaizen nodded. "That's right. Using Minibus's abilities, we can eliminate the other monsters."

Dominica turned to Ralph. "If you help us, we'll ensure your safety—and Minibus's. Parasites can't reproduce, and their power has limits. Once the others are gone, your situation will be no different from any other nen user."

Her voice softened. "But you can't stay in Taris Kingdom. It's too dangerous. If word gets out about Minibus, you'll have countless enemies. The Kingdom of Fiora will be safer. There, you'll live freely, away from prying eyes."

She paused, then added, "I can provide you with a house and enough money for you and your siblings to live comfortably. As long as you don't commit heinous crimes, I'll guarantee your safety in Fiora."

Ralph nodded, his heart heavy with resignation. He had expected as much. His fate was no longer his to decide.

Dominica turned to Kaizen. "Tomorrow, bring Ralph's siblings here. With this rain, it's unsafe for them to stay where they are."

Kaizen nodded. "Understood."

Kaizen made his way to the tent area, the heavy rain soaking everything in sight. Most of the tents had collapsed, and people scattered, seeking shelter.

"There!" Kaizen spotted Lilith and her younger siblings, Haji and Hassan, huddled against a large rock. They were soaked and barely conscious.

"Lilith," Kaizen called, placing a hand on her shoulder.

She turned weakly, her eyes lighting up when she saw him.

"Brother!" she cried, mistaking him for Ralph.

"It's me, Kaizen," he said gently. "Ralph is safe. I've come to take you somewhere warm and dry."

Lilith hesitated but ultimately nodded.

Kaizen took her hand, then helped Haji and Hassan to their feet. Slowly, he led them back to the yard.

When they entered, Ralph jumped up, relief flooding his face.

"Lilith! Haji! Hassan!"

"Brother!" the siblings cried, rushing to him as Kaizen ushered them under the shed.

Wendy handed each of them a bowl of steaming noodle soup.

"Here, eat and warm up," she said.

"Thank you," Lilith whispered, her voice trembling.

As they huddled by the fire, Ralph turned to Kaizen, his voice low.

"What's the plan for tomorrow?"

Kaizen's gaze was steady. "We'll discuss it in the morning. For now, get some rest."
