Chapter 61 - It Begins II: Chanced Encounter With Lightning.

[The void felt empty….the voice I never grew to question became something I needed. It was so dark, so cold—I could hardly stand it. I wanted to know why I could not hear your voice any longer. Why I felt empty and worse still, incomplete. Were you the light that my shadow was supposed to obsess over? That was all I questioned, before my memories shifted once more. Feeding me only those I had to see….]

About three weeks had passed since the trial commenced when Kano opened his eyes. A black fog shrouded his vacant gaze. He looked around the cave. There was no one present at the time. He stood looking at his arms, which were covered in blue Crystalis stitches. They spread all over his body, holding together his otherwise dysfunctional body. He looked under his shirt, his whole body was covered in stitches.

A black fog shrouded his body when he dashed to the entrance. At the time, Tondra stood at the entrance. Before she understood, he had embraced her. "ah…ah—w-what are you doing?" She stuttered.

This voice—This feeling….it's not the right one. I suppose that sensation only happens when it's Anemone. His eyes cleared, returning to their aquamarine state. "I am sorry miss. My mind went blank for a moment."

"Did you confuse me with your light. You are a shadow, right?" She asked.

"No, I am actually a water mage," he let go of her, "Can you not tell from my aura."

"I can but—...." I know what I saw, a black fog coated your body and spoke to me as though it was alive. "Thou shalt not leave before he wakes. Watch him as his will is now shackled to thou." That was all it said to me.

"What's the matter, miss? You seem bothered by something."

"Do you feel okay? I mean considering the fact that my brother almost killed you and you now stand before me." She asked, tapping her index fingers together.

"Oh, that was your brother—I knew it. Those disgusting feelings left such a bitter taste in my soul. I am just going to tell you this in advance—but, I will be the one to kill your brother."

Such an inferiority complex, resentment, jealousy, hate and even belief that your life is unfair is just pathetic. One should never feel that way, to someone you are so close to..

"No! You can't. He needs to complete this trial. It's important to him." She pleaded ever so desperately, "If he can't then—….."

"Honestly, I could care less. It's the way he made me feel. The feelings that came from him repulsed me. I can't help but want that." He has to go….

"Did someone who hates him put you up to this—it must be. Shadows never act unless directed by their light." She raised her hands, forming her fists.

"What are you doing? We are only talking…I don't wish to harm you," he smiled, a black fog being released from his right eyes.

"You saved me— and I don't want to do this….but, if you really want to target my brother. You might as well end my life here." She lunged, delivering a hook to his lower jaw. He groaned, blood dripping from his mouth. He coughed before a hook met his torso.

She can hit….fiercely so, but why though? That scum bag tried to kill her too. Why seek out someone like him? Another jab met his chest. Do I fight back? No—she isn't even using magic release. These hits are definitely imbued in magic…they sting too much. She punched his forehead, Wait, she isn't striking my weak points….she would have an easier time incapacitated me. She is slowing down—why is she now crying.

"Wh….," It hurts just to talk.

She stopped, "Why?! Why won't you hit me back—or at the very least defend yourself."

So you are crying because I won't hit you back. Why are people so complex….he—or I am complex as well.

"It's," he coughed, "I don't want to hurt you." This is absolutely pointless.

"But if you don't, you will die."

"What? There is no way that scumbag can actually kill me." He felt tingling all over his body before he coughed. He fell to his knees, gasping for air. "What did you do?" his voice was hoarse as he spoke. His chest tightened, wondering what was wrong.

"You stayed in my presence for much too long. I always made sure to leave before long and never touched you so you wouldn't succumb. But today, you touched me—"

Kano coughed, What is this feeling? It's akin to drowning…..is this how you really feel? It is as if you want me to say otherwise.

"I don't have the ability to control my magic….so I will leave now. Just don't fight my brother. I need him to win this—to complete the trial." She wiped her tears. Before she could walk out, he grabbed her hand.

"I will teach you!" he said, squeezing whatever air he had left in his lungs.

"You can hardly stand," she pulled her hand away.

"What do you mean? I am fine," he made it back to his feet, trembling still. "It just took me a while to adjust." His left eye, once blue turned dark. "I need you to stay here. It's not much but I will go and get something for us to eat."

"But you are injured. You need treatment as soon as possible."

Blue Crystalis threads formed, stitching all his wounds shut. "It will only take a few minutes." Before she could respond, he ran out the room.

~

He ran, faster and faster still until he approached a volcano. It was located roughly 20Km from where they were. No sooner had he stopped than he fell to his knees gasping for air. His surroundings began to glitch as he returned to the dark void. On the ground, Kano lay before him, unconscious and tightly wrapped in stripes under the water. "It appears you won't wake until later," his voice reverberating with each word he spoke. "The pain you endured was a bit too much."

His surroundings glitched before they reappeared. He looked at the volcano before smiling, "I suppose I will just have to settle for killing anyone." She really did scar me after all.

Tondra sat in the cave wondering, Where did he go? There is something off about him. Particularly his aura,, I have never seen anything like it. I could see a thread tying me to him. At her feet, she saw a stick wrapped in thread, three strands coiled together before a line was drawn on her iris. A purple line that cut the center of her white eyes.
