After an uneventful hour at school Alix decided to head home. It would probably be easier to read about Runic magic there than here. Why would that be? Well...
"I'm just really confused as to why none of you are more surprised that I've been killing people for the past month. Did I always give off serial killer vibes or something?"
"I don t know what these 'serial killer vibes' are but I just assumed that you were up to something because of how often I noticed you slept through my Mistress's lessons."
"...You were watching me sleep?"
"Watch is a strong word, I prefer a casual observation."
...So home seems like the best option. Besides, it wasn't like they actually had school today. This was just the most private place that they could converse about Eric being a criminal and wielding a lost, scorned form of magic. Where else would they go? The park? She did manage to get one of those ever unpredictable pink strings connected to Eric before leaving.
'Yet another thing for me to research and experiment with at some point.'
Alix walked through the streets still reading the texts about the Runic Clan. The way that they began on their path of magic was quite interesting. Not to mention the way that the magic flourished as if to support the clan's endeavors. 'And yet I still feel like there is more than meets the eye. Something to learn from.'
Mo peered up at the focused Alix with a sour look on his face. "Lexi, why don't ya talk to me while we're all in that office?"
"Huh?"
"Ya heard me! I feel like ya forget about me being in the room when those two guys are around. Do ya like them more than me or somethin'?" Mo was clearly annoyed. Alix responded impassively.
"Why do you not talk when they are in the room? Do you feel scared? Uncomfortable, maybe? I thought there was nothing that could break through your scales but it turns out that they might be as brittle as rotten wood."
Mo was at a lost for words. "Was that an insult, Lexi?" He question utterly appalled. "I thought we were better than this! Next thing ya know, we're gonna be arguing about who destroyed our relationship. What would Felix think!?" Alix disregarded Mo's words. He was clearly just upset that he wasn't getting as much attention as he thought that he would by always being with Alix.
"I just haven't managed to crack leaving that impression on the air yet. I'm must be missing something!" Alix's face scrunched. She was incredibly frustrated. 'No matter how much research I do I can't seem to find anything even remotely helpful.' Alix sighed. 'I may as well throw myself into reading about Runic Magic. It should help clear my mind at least a bit.'
Alix continued to walk home slowly as she fully concentrated on reading the book. She barely even noticed that ever adorable squeak from her newest friend.
"Hi Pwetty G-EEEK!" Alix stopped abruptly. She lifted her foot revealing a rat with his eyes wide in terror. "Oh, hey Felix." She greeted monotonously. Felix was still breathing heavily as he had quite nearly been crushed. He slightly regained enough composure to weakly say, "HhHeEEeyyy~"
"Ya ok, kid? Ya look like ya just saw a ghost." Felix slowly shifted his gaze to the fish that sarcastically questioned him. "I saw my gramma and a somma my dead bwothas. It was..." The childish rat leaped in to the air suddenly.
"...so COOL! I want try it again! Do it again pwease!!" Felix clung to Alix's foot as he begged to experience near death again. Mo sighed. "Once again, I told ya that grabbin' a rat off of the street was a bad idea, Lex-Lexi?" Mo's face shifted to worry when he noticed that Alix had completely frozen. Face and all.
"Hey, are ya ok Lexi?"
No response. Mo got increasing worried as he the girl began to shake. "LEXI! Are ya scared of somethin'!? Maybe ya feel bad about almost killin' Felix? In which case I say it would have been fine even if ya had crushed him under yer foot. No one would miss 'im."
"Heeeyy!" Mo snapped at Felix. "Shut it rat! Somethin's up with Lexi!" Felix covered his mouth with his hands forcing himself to not speak.
"...it" Alix mumbled. Mo immediately questioned the girl. "What was that, Lexi?"
"I've got it..." The girl lifted the fish bowl in front of her and made direct eye contact with the fish. "I found the solution to the problem. I've got it. I know how to make it work!" Alix's voice resounded as shout began to shout in excitement.
She began to spin around with the fish bowl cackling. Mo felt sick to his little fish stomach. "URGH! I should have just stuck to the dietary supplements!" A smile beamed on the girl's face. She stopped spinning and looked down to Felix.
"I have to try it now!" Felix lifted one of his eyebrows but did not speak as Mo had not told him to unshut up yet. Alix put an extremely nauseous Mo onto the dirt road and kneeled down in front of Felix. "I'm gonna keep my promise to you Felix! Right now!" Felix tilted his head to the side as if to say, 'What pwomise?'
Alix held up her index finger and closed her eyes. She concentrated as hard as she could. The air in front of her seemed to distort ever so slightly and a slight cracking sound could even be heard if one listened hard enough. Her finger was enveloped by a colorless aura as she then pointed it toward the distortion. Then she got started.
Her finger dragged across the air as a mark was left upon it. Mo had recovered from his dizziness finally realizing what the girl had done. He did not speak as he did not want to distract her. Alix continued to trace her spell onto the air. Every movement that her finger made leaving its mark directly onto the space before her. In the beginning she moved slow but she gradually gained speed as she became more certain that it was working.
Sweat dripped down Alix's face but she did not look even the slightest bit tired. In fact, she looked invigorated. Moreso now than any point during recent days.
Felix was the only one that still didn't seem to understand what was happening when he began to feel himself lifting off of the ground. He wanted to scream but was still not given the okay to remove his hands so...no sound.
As the spell neared its completion the text in the air began to glow brightly. It shimmered and shook almost as if it was begging to be released. Alix smirked as these words unconsciously left her lips, "With this contract our bond has been strengthened!"
Alix traced the final piece and opened her palm toward the levitating rat. She was normally quite docile whilst casting her spells. Every one else would shout their spell names as loud as they could like they were begging for people to pay attention to the spell. Not Alix.
That is to say, Alix would not normally do something like that. This was a different situation however. Alix smirked proudly as she stared into the still confused Felix's eyes. Sweat pouring down her face and arms. It did not seem to mind her, though as she finished the spell with the most important part.
The name.
"OMNIA NEXUS!!" Alix declared loudly. The spell reacted immediately as the floating text began to glow more brightly then ever before. The cracking sound was enhanced and the spell shot towards Felix at high speeds.
As soon as it came into contact with the rat an explosion of wind sent the girl and the fish toppling over. Alix sat herself up in awe before suddenly feeling light-headed. "What the-" She collapsed to the ground as the spell sent out another strong wind blast. The wind sent Mo's fish bowl, which had already fell to its side, rolling away.
"Waitwaitwait! I can't STOOOOP!" He cried as he was pushed into the distance. This all happened within the span of a single minute as Felix gently fell back to the ground. His hands no longer covered his mouth and he was staring down at his chest. Or more specifically the silver string that was exiting from his chest.
"Wooaaah! What is dis?" Felix plucked the string lightly with his tiny hand. When moving his hand he felt something strange. It felt...easier somehow? That wasn't all, he was standing on his two legs but he didn't feel as unbalanced as he originally did when he met the giant. "Is it twue? Am I weally stwonga!" Felix looked for something to test his strength on when he noticed that the giant was sleeping on the floor. "Oooh! I know!"
Felix raced over to Alix excitedly. "This should be the best test of stwength! Lifting the giant!"
If Alix was awake she may have taken some sort of offense to that.
