Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Origins

Lu Kun…? Wait, wasn't that one of the names displayed to me on that kill list? That damn angel has also been awfully quiet as well. The moment that guy stopped talking all of a sudden should have been when I knew something was up.

'Amos, don't you dare try running away now that I need you! Open that system panel up to me right now!'

[Concentrate on it, and you'll be able to open it yourself on instinct…]

Why does the damn guy sound sad for some reason?

I concentrated and tried to imagine the image of a translucent blue screen, and almost immediately, it appeared in front of my face. I furiously began scrolling down until I saw the same name I just heard.

[Identity: Lu Kun

Plot role: Transmigrator

Cultivation: ???

Bounty: Knowledge of a Single World

Information: A memory fragment has been unlocked. Would you like to be granted knowledge of this particular main character?]

'A memory fragment has been unlocked? Doesn't that mean this guy really is the same Lu Kun on this list?'

Amos sighed. He realized he was going to have to eventually murder his own subordinate one day.

'Wait, this guy… he isn't even my subordinate! He's a transmigrator like me, which means he stole my servant's body! No, that's not quite right either. If he's really like me and went through the same transmigration I did, he would still act like my original subordinate due to the former body's memories slowly changing his personality.'

When I first transmigrated, I remember struggling to figure out whether I was Tang Shimin or Theodo-

A sharp and violent headache interrupted my thoughts, making me clutch my head. How annoying, ever since I gave up my original name and inherited the name of Amos, I have been forbidden to use or even think of my name from earth.

"Young master, are you alright?" Lu Kun asked, a little worried at the fact I started randomly flicking the air before suffering from a headache.

"Yes, yes, I'm fine. My own head hurts after being unable to withstand the sheer brilliance of my own thoughts," I said while waving him off. "Lu Kun, get someone else to watch over me as well."

I have no idea how or why or even when Lu Kun transmigrated and what type of person he was before his transmigration. If he gets any funny ideas while I'm in such a vulnerable state whilst cultivating, things could end really badly for me.

I also can't seem to access a clear memory of what the previous Lu Kun was like, due to this feeble body's mortal mind. Simply too many unpredictable factors for my liking. Actually, can't he murder me right now? Mother wouldn't let anyone below golden core serve me, so he's without a doubt stronger than me. Being a pitiful 7th-stage Qi Refining ant is not fun.

"Young master, are you worried? I assure you, my skills are top-notch, out of everyone currently in this household, my perception and control over qi flow are unmatched."

I struggled to not roll my eyes at that last comment.

"Better safe than sorry, get going now. I don't like to repeat myself," I said.

"If that is your wish." Lu Kun responded before departing.

As soon as Lu Kun left, Amos immediately opened his kill list once more.

'Yes, yes, for the love of all that is still holy below the 7 heavens, I would love to be granted the knowledge of this guy. Why do I even need to confirm this? Which moron made this system-'

Images immediately began to flow out of the status screen and started to blend into Amos' surroundings. His room immediately transformed into a bloody battlefield. Surrounding him were fresh corpses, vultures flying high above in the sky, and in the distance, a red rift as big as a mountain covered the landscape, spilling out grotesque creatures.

His vision turned blurry before stabilizing once more. Amos realized he couldn't move his body, or rather the body he was currently observing the scene from. Suddenly, Amos heard a voice coming from the sky above him.

"Pitiful. Was this really the strongest force you were able to muster? Another third-rate wasteland with a barely functioning primordial core. Why did you even bother refusing my deal if your world was this weak?"

Amos' mouth automatically moved by itself, "Enough. Haven't you mocked me enough? Kill me and be done with it."

The voice above boomed with laughter, "I would love to, however, even if you didn't accept my contract, someone else did. Your precious little saintess made me promise to transport you away."

Amos suddenly felt his stomach drop, his entire being filled with indescribable despair. "What?"

"How else did you think I appeared so early? If some insignificant makeshift demonic cult was enough to summon me so easily, can I truly call myself a demonic god? The saintess everyone in this world worships did it."

Amos felt rage surging through him before yelling at the sky above, "What absurd lies! Even now you still toy with me!"

The dark clouds above immediately parted before a giant red eye, its size covering the entire sky. "There's no use conversing with a mortal, much less one as idiotic as you. Begone."

The entire world began to turn in on itself, shapes becoming incomprehensible, and color disappearing from the world itself while time seemed to stop flowing.

[Okay, okay, that's more than enough for you for today!]

Amos immediately snapped awake, cold sweat running down his neck.

"What the fuck was that?" Amos yelled, struggling not to throw up from the vertigo. "God, that felt like an incomplete soul searching technique."

[That, my friend, was a memory fragment. Congratulations on unlocking your first one! You might want to look at the screen again.]

Amos immediately did.

[Identity: Lu Kun

Plot role: Transmigrator

Cultivation: Nascent Soul

Bounty: Knowledge of a Single World

Information: (⅓ fragments unlocked) Lu Kun, formerly known as Elyan Albon, was his world's 17th-generation hero, a remarkable talent who was able to achieve transcendence at the mere age of 13, slay the Demon King by 15, forge the 18th generation's holy sword by 16, and by 20 conquer the Malum Continent with his party. He thought himself invincible until the demon king he thought he had slain came back for revenge.]

Amos stared at the massive block of information that suddenly appeared before slowly analyzing it piece by piece.

'Elyan Albon? 17th-generation hero? What nonsense is this? He's not from earth like me! And that stomach churning flashback, what ludicrous world did he come from? I always theorized that Earth, the place I was from, was actually a pocket universe made by some god-like cultivator, but perhaps there are actually entirely separate universes?'

'Also, isn't this guy a prodigy? The ego of a genius is not easily trampled, yet here he is, obeying my every command…'

Amos began to slowly nod. 'As expected, a person of my stature should only have servants of this quality.'

[Seriously, that's the conclusion you reach?]

As Amos deliberated how to properly investigate Lu Kun further, he was interrupted yet again.

"Shimin, what are you up to this time?" A soft feminine voice said, coming from a hallway.

Amos was starting to get annoyed, this was the 3rd time he got interrupted today.

Glancing at the source of the voice, he saw Lu Kun walking beside a short woman, her hair as black as midnight, her eyes azure, resembling the color of the sky. She wore the same white robe he wore.

Amos immediately felt a pang of misery as soon as he recognized who she was. How could he not? It was the sadistic training instructor who whipped him into shape during the first rebirth, Miss Ruyun.
