Chapter 102 - Weapon testing

"Semyon, can we create a portal now?" After leaving the camp, Chernov contacts Semyon.

"Portal? General, we can only create a very low-quality portal for now, at least not those undead or elves versions you have seen by far."

"Good news as long as we can create one, tell me the difference."

"We can't transfer any living things, we tried using animals, and they were crushed into pieces. Also, we can't transfer any big-sized object, only small objects can be transferred."

"How do you determine an object as a small or big size?"

"We determine it by its volume, let's say we are transferring an ammunition box, no matter what is it inside, as long as the volume of the box is within the range, then it will not be a problem for it to go through the portal."

Nice, and next, it will be the biggest issue, the cost.

"No worry general, the cost will not be an issue. To build the portal we just need some minerals to do that, and this type of minerals are everywhere in the land of plain. If it is needed we can start the mass production."

Listened that the cost was not a problem, Chernov smiled with relief, because there was a very high probability that his plan could be achieved. He then tells Semyon about all the magic, the magic of cooling, Starfire blind, and also the dwarf armour technology.

"Semyon, you see, all this magic is good, but the logistics are a problem, if I ask the elf to apply the magic of cooling to our equipment, the consumption will always be faster than the supply. So I wondering if we can put a small portal from the dwarf military factory straight to the battlefield. And from the battlefield, the ammo can straight transfer into the equipment or nearby by building another massive amount of mini-portal."

Opposite of the phone remain silent for a moment.

"General, if I didn't understand you wrongly, in the first request you are talking about the output of the factory will straight go into the frontline, and transfer to the front after easy packaging, I assume this way is for infantry where we can't build mini-portal on them."

"And for the second statement, you mean that we will build a mini-portal in the vehicle, and ammo just appears inside the vehicle whenever they have used up their ammo? This is insane."

Yes, this is what he means.

"So Semyon, can we do that? You know many constructions are going now, we don't have an extra man to build another railway."

"Theoretically yes, but in practice there may be many more questions."

"That's why we need people like you, I believe in you. After the weapon testing, we will start working on it."

Later on, they discussed the industrial and military factory zone, everything had been drafted except for the location would be changed to Eldario, where the airport is nearby and the place would be the endpoint of the intercontinental train. Once the equipment is unloaded from the train, the elves and dwarf craftsmen will do their job.

After hanging up the phone, Chernov sighed, the preliminary plan was ready, now they just needed to start implementing it. Two days later he will be in Plainspire again and after the weapon testing is done, Semyon will return here together with him to start the construction.

By this time, there are 9 more months from the expected Chaos attack to begin.

---

2 days later, Chernov went back to Plainspire for the vacuum imploder testing.

"Semyon, how is the material, does it work?"

"Great, Comrade General, working. You may want to see what the undead land looks like, believe me, this is the first time you can see it so clearly, not even those pictures from the satellite."

Soon he was led into a room, where the drone operators controlled the camera on the drones, while the screen side showed the image.

From the image shown now, it is an undead city. This is the first time that an undead city was recorded by the Soviet's camera.

From high above, the drone's camera captures a grim and surreal vista, an undead city sprawled across a dead, cracked land like a festering wound. The buildings are jagged and asymmetrical, made of dark obsidian, bone, and ashstone, jutting skyward like broken tombstones or twisted spires.

The streets spiral inward toward a central cathedral of bone, massive and grotesque, its towers glowing faintly with a pale green light pulsing like a heartbeat. No signs of life, no smoke, no movement of carts, no voices, only the endless shuffle of skeletal patrols and the silent glide of wraiths above rooftops.

Massive grave plazas lie open, row upon row of dug-up earth or sealed coffins ready to be awakened. Strange, rune-etched towers channel flickering arcs of necrotic magic skyward like lightning conductors, while the outer walls, an unnerving mix of stone and ribcage-like barricades, stand silently watchful.

"So this is where we will test the vacuum imploder."

"Yes Comrade General, we were just waiting for your arrival to witness this great moment together."

"Then let it begin. Oh, wait, our missile would not be destroyed by the element's magic right?"

"No worry Comrade General, we have done the job and testing, such a short distance would not affect it much."

"Great, ignite the missile."

As the order was given, the UR-100N missile was ignited, nothing different from how others missile was launched.

The drone continues its silent observation over the undead city, a sharp, shrill whine cuts through the air, a warning too late for the dead below. From high altitude, a dark, metallic cylinder drops through the clouds like a falling god's hammer.

It hits the centre of the grave plaza with a muffled thud, embedding into the corrupted stone. For a brief moment, all is still, even the restless undead freeze, as if sensing what is to come. Then, the core glows with a deep crimson light, pulsing once, twice, before collapsing in on itself with a roar.

The air itself screams as the Imploder activates.

Buildings are torn from their foundations as the very atmosphere is sucked toward ground zero. Dust, bones, shattered stone, and even towering undead abominations are ripped through the air like paper caught in a storm. The force compresses everything into an imploding singularity, and then, just as suddenly, it releases.

A blinding explosion of reversed pressure tears outward in a shockwave. The entire city core disintegrates in an instant. Obsidian towers shatter, bone cathedrals explode into clouds of ash, and rune-etched spires crumble as their dark energies violently unravel. The once silent air is filled with the sound of shrieking souls, ripped from the remnants of their undead vessels, echoing into the void before vanishing completely.

When the smoke clears, there is no crater, only a scorched, circular ruin where the city's heart once stood. Only some of the strong buildings remain, the rest have flattened. The drone's camera drops from the blast's aftershock, before it drops, it captures the last moment when a city of undeath is reduced to nothing but dust, silence, and scorched earth.

Looking at what happened, the ones inside the room remain silent and then cheer.

"The damage on the building is more than what we expected, does not matter, nothing different in the end. Send another drone, I want a close view of the site."

Just a few moments later, another drone has reached the city. The operator controls the drone, reducing its altitude, and flies towards where the streets originally remained.

"No survivors, no remains and bodies of the undead, very few ruins are found."

"Seems like many of the undead buildings are too weak, the vacuum imploder can just tear them apart and compress them onto the singularity while if the building is strong enough limited damage can be done. Fly into those buildings that are still standing, I want to see what happened inside." Semyon analyze.

"Yes, Comrade."

The drones slowly fly into it, and then many of the people here who did not go to the battlefield feel like vomiting.

Inside the building, except for white bones, there is fresh meat and blood that is everywhere in the room. Semyon endured the discomfort and carefully observed the images sent back.

"The vacuum imploder still works even though the personnel was inside a strong building. These undead were attracted by it, but due to the strong building blocking it, they were compressed, until their body exploded. Check whether there is a basement or underground facilities."

Usually, nukes will have limited radiation damage to personnel once they are underground. The deeper it is, the less damage it will have.

The drones then fly to a suspicious basement entry.

"Comrade, the entry was locked. Wait, I think there is someone inside."

Everyone remains silent.

"Fucking Soviets! They're just using us as a weapons testing ground."

"What can you do if you don't like it? You should appreciate that you survived another horrible weapon again."

Damage is limited underground. Semyon noted down this. Later on, under the instruction of Semyon, a few more data was collected, including the range, the radiation and other.
