Chapter 15 - Ambushed

Lately, I sometimes find myself straying away from the path of tranquility. I mean, it's because of these damn love candidates giving me a hard time!

One moment they're acting arrogant, the next moment they're suddenly being nice. Does that even make sense? I don't understand these characters.

Moreover, right now, I am currently having tea with Prince John. He sent a formal letter to meet at his place because he had something important to discuss, and I obviously couldn't refuse a Royal like that. I'd have this whole nation against me. Even if I say that I'll fight the whole country, but thinking about it just sounds unrealistic. I'm not even confident in my ability to fight.

"Prince John, what was the important matter that you wanted to discuss?" I asked. Since he kept talking about useless topic, I decided to get straight to the point.

"I'd like you to get engaged with me," was his reply and I nearly choked on the tea I was sipping. Almost immediately, I got up from my seat and raised my voice, "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!" It wasn't only until a second later that I had realized how rude and offensive my actions were.

"I-I'm sorry. You just caught me by surprise, but may I ask for the reason why you want to be engaged with me? I just... don't understand. I mean, don't you have lady Margaret in your heart?"

"Mar...garet?" Prince John twitched at that name before grabbing his head. In the next moment, he looked up at me with a deadly glare, "Lady Margaret is indeed the only one for my heart. I must have been out of my mind to invite you. You're free to leave now," he says before leaving me by myself.

What happened to Margaret? I mean, originally, in the story she was a kind and gentle girl who helps those who needs a helping hand. So why has that setting came crumbling down and now she feels like the REAL villainess.

Not to mention, where in the world is the actual villain of this story?

"This is stressing me out. Maybe I should check up on my businesses," I let out a heavy sigh before going back to my carriage. However, bad events kept coming one after another.

First the prince's confession, then kicking me out of nowhere, and now this?! What the hell is going on!! I'm not even the female lead in this story so why am I going through so much!

"Jeezus Christ, can't you drive properly?!" I hopped off the carriage to scold the driver only to find him dead by two men, "Is she the one?" one of them spoke.

"I think so. She fits the description the lady told us."

One of them had red hair with a scar on his right eye.  The other had a more tanned skin and fierce eyes. The only similarity they shared was the wolf ears, and I could only assume one thing.

Beast men.

I've only read about them towards the ending when I was spoiling myself, but I can't believe that I'm actually seeing them right now.

Originally, they are the next head of the wolf clan. Being the next in line to a throne is often dangerous. Betrayal will become a norm and there will be a lot of assassination.

When their parents died, these two young wolf quickly escaped their territory and was found by Margaret.

The only problem is... It was supposed to happen during a music festival where she snuck out to enjoy the music. And that event won't be happening for another month or two, so what the hell....?

I suppose Lady Margaret has sent these two to ambush me while I'm on my way home. Isn't that too cliche?

"You can take care of her. I don't want to dirty my hands," Ong says while crossing his arm with disinterested eyes.

Pissed at his words, I smirked and crossed my arms as well, "No wonder your tribe couldn't accept you as the next head. It seems like you judge a book by its cover too often," I shrugged my shoulders.

Naturally, both of them were fumed by my words. It was to the point that they recklessly charged at me without planning ahead. Just like the beast they are, they had their sharp nails ready to pierce my small face only to have them miss their attack.

I was on the side of their presence, smirking arrogantly.

"Did you know? I have the ability to force a beast to serve me." I cheerfully explains to them.

It was a one-sided fight. Despite how many times I try to scare them away or convince them that they're not worth my time, they just didn't give up. So I had to do something.

"You're really forcing me to do this," I sigh.

I had both of my hands extended out while preparing for the incantation of the spell. It takes time to actually gather all my mana and force it to obey the soul of a beast.

Just as my incantation was about to finish, Kai appeared in the air using teleportation and landed smoothly while wrapping his left arm around my shoulder, "What are you doing with two puppies?" He smiles, but it wasn't a genuine smile. Rather, it was the opposite.

This man is always smiling, but each of his smile has a different emotion to it.

Sometimes, it's an angry smile, sometimes a threatening smile, and sometimes it could even be a smile to murder somebody.

Right now, the latter seems to be plausible.

"W-we should go back don't you think? It's not a good idea to waste our time with those lowly beast," I forced myself to drag him away.

It wouldn't be good if those two died.

What if something happens to the world because one of the side characters died? And by the hands of Kai?

Though, I don't even know if this is a useful worry. After all, I've already tweaked the plot of this novel too much to the point that nothing is following nothing.

Ahhh, maybe I should think of a new business to open up. A place where I can forget all my stress and just enjoy the moment.

Whatever, I'll think about it when I'm back home.
